Just as an FYI, it's not really a base "board" as such. Happy to be corrected, but I believe it is a 2mm layer of sound deadener. This has an adhesive side which is what is stuck to the roof (the shiny part is the adhesive that wasn't properly adhered to the roof). Here are some photos including a cross section.
