My old bell helmet expired and its time for a new one. Any suggestions? I did 6 track days last summer and plan to do about 10 or so this summer. So not too much track time. I am mostly looking for something that is comfortable and has good visibility. Budget is $1k give or take. Thanks!

I have an Arai GP-6S. Which means absolutely nothing. Different brands fit differently. Bells did not fit me properly.

If a Bell fits you well then buy another Bell. For me Arai fits me best so I stick to that brand. I've tried other brands and it was an expensive exercise to end up in the same place. 1K is plenty to get yourself a good helmet.

I'm an ARAI "SK" line fan and user for a long time because I'm into karting, but have you tried Stilo? Awesome product as well.

What jcurry said. Since the very first attribute that you stated was comfort, then go to a store and try on multiple helmets. That's the only way you'll know if you're going to like the way any particular helmet fits your head.

I have to plug ARAI as well, after my potentially VERY fatal Ducati wreck,
I had it on for the graphics and logo partnership, but since then have added THREE more.

Before that, since karting I was a die hard Simpson customer, and they still offer one the most economical full face CF units that I know of.
They base warehousing in New Bransfels too so I drive by there two or three times a month..LOL!

Living in a big city, I sometimes forget that not every town has a speed shop for such things. But if you currently track, there's probably a shop at the tracks or nearby. The other choice might be to try on motorcycle helmets from the same manufacturer at a nearby motorcycle shop, but I don't know if they're consistent that way. Any big kart tracks nearby? Long shot might be to check the vendor area at a pro race if you plan to attend one this year.

When I was first searching for a helmet a few yrs ago, the guy at the motorsports shop (425 Motorsports) told me that Bell seemed to be made for people with more full/'round' head shapes whereas the Arai fit better for narrow/'oval' head shapes. I have a narrow shape and I did find that the Bell was loose and the Arai properly snug. Anecdotal, yes, but have observed others with the two helmets that seem to support the supposition. YMMV.

Different brands fit differently for different head shapes. My head fits in most Bell helmets well and Stilo helmets. 2 years ago I went with a Stilo and have been extremely happy with it. They fit MY HEAD great and I love there intercom system for when I instruct.

It is really worth to make a trip and go try some on and get the helmet that fits your head best. Never ever cheap out on a helmet...ever!

Would suggest the lightest and most comfortable in that order.

If you don't have a race shop in town, you probably have a few motorcycle shops. The fit of most brands is the same between motorcycle and auto helmets, so you can figure out what's comfortable and then price the SA helmet you want online. Then see if the shop you visited can order it for you anywhere near the online price. If it's within $100 I say get it from your local shop so they'll be there for you next time. Also buy some helmet cleaner while you're there. liquids and aerosols aren't cost effective to ship in small quantities and it's another little profit for them.
In short, buy local when at all possible.

bell rs7 or arai gp-7 those are the best in that budget in terms of weight/comfort. it all depends on your head shape.

If you would fully fill out your profile or tell us where you’re from we could probably steer you to a shop to try on helmets.
