I took out my 2017 488 GTB last night. It has about 2500 miles on it. The low fuel message was there but the gauge showed 2 bars. Half a mile from my home the Engine ECU malfunction or a similar message came up followed by multiple other messages ie e-diff something and go to dealer. I stopped the car turned it off and restarted. It went another few yards and the messages started again and this time the engine stalled and turned off.

I thought it might have run out of gas so I put 2 gallons in it but while the engine cranks it would not start. I got it towed back to my home. Had to learn how to manually disable parking lock!

I’ll contact the dealer today (we are 250 miles from the nearest one). Any thoughts?

    sincerely,

    Mir.

Faulty battery is always the place to start. But even before you change that, you might want to try this.

Unclip the quck disconnect from your battery and let it sit for a few hours. While you do this, put a charger on the battery using clamps. A CTek is fairly cheap and super easy to use.

This way you get some juice to the battery and the car will do a hard reset. Order up a new battery anyway if the original is in it. As always I think the Braille B7548 is the go-to battery.

Will the disconnect and charging work? I don't know, but it is worth a try.

I always connect the battery trickle charger to my 488 when i park it after a drive. An Antigravity battery will solve a lot of issues with Ferraris.

    Thanks mates,

I am trickle charging it tonight. Will try the disconnect trick tomorrow.

After the disconnect will I need the radio code or anything else?

There's a simple reset procedure. It is explained in your owners manual. You will need to set the clock though...

I had the same thing happen in my AMG, which has the same transmission I believe as the 488. Gas gauge showed 40-50 miles range. Car turned off. Message said something about "differential failure."

Dealer had to clear all the codes and add gas and it was good to go. Even though you added gas, all the fault codes are still stored in the ECU. Disconnecting the battery for a while should reset the codes but another option would be to buy a cheap OBD2 code reader/clearer from the local Autozone or Amazon.

The reconnect procedure is outlined in the owners manual.

Sounds like a dead battery issue. Check the voltage if you have a digital volt meter.

I charged the battery with the Trickle overnight. It had the green light. Added more gas, now 4 gallons.

The car started but then would shut off by itself with multiple warning the first one being that the Catalytic convertor temp not plausible, then E-diff, AVH etc etc

Disconnected battery, reconnected and followed the reset procedures from the manual.

Still starts, then shuts off, but no warnings!

Pick for transport to dealer tomorrow , ......5 hr trip!:-(

Issues such as these are not part of the free service. The free service is just that, normal service.

This is real shop time. If anything is suitable, it's warranty.

If battery alone why wouldn’t it stay running once started? Won’t the alternator be sufficient alone or does that still screw up electronics and codes shut car down? If so, then jump starting won’t solve anything trying to get home.

The battery is the buffer thats why you NEVER run an engine of the alternator without a battery.

Its most likely the battery has lost a cell or 2.

You are correct in saying " jump starting won’t solve anything trying to get home " but I would say there most likely have been starting issues this episode.

A jump start is the beginning to tell you the battery is going to go. I found out that after 3 jump starts that was it. Still able to drive but the dash was like a Christmas Tree.

The car finally got fixed. The ECU for the fuel pump needed replacement. It was covered by the extended warranty.
