Hi all, Are these bolts on the bracing strut undone the normal way, ie counter clockwise? I ask as mine don’t want to move and I just want to make sure they don’t undo the other way. Image Unavailable, Please Login Sent from my iPhone using FerrariChat.com mobile app
I’m thinking there’s a steel bushing inside the rubber part of the mount. The bolt tightens up on the steel bushing. Hold the bolt head and spin off the nut, and yes use lots of penetrant and let it soak overnight. Sent from my iPad using FerrariChat.com mobile app
If you plan on replacing that bushing (because the rubber is degraded, which it probably is) go ahead and get your MAP gas or oxy acetylene torch ready. Heat the bejeezus out of the aluminum, and rely on differential expansion to get the steel bushing shell out. Try to do it cold, and you will ruin your cam cover.
I can't imagine that fitting being so tight that a standard 1/2" drive ratchet/socket on the nut and a wrench to hold the bolt head can't easily remove it unless it is seriously rusted/corroded and it doesn't look that way. What have you used to try to loosen it? No heat, penetrant, or anything else is necessary if it's not corroded/rusted.
I have tried penetrant, but no joy. I have tried an extended wrench, but even with an extra 18" leverage I couldn't budge it - I do wonder if some bonding agent has been used.... Haven't tried heat, but I don't have anything that would heat it enough so I'm going to take it to my local specialist and see if they can loosen them up. The bushes look fine, so unless they are damaged in extraction I'm going to leave them alone.
