Great job by Max. Gasly the second standout in p5 with yellows.

Not much real improvement overall for Mercedes with respect to testing. Its a touch faster but was .4 or more off in testing.
Long run race pace it was closer to RedBull but with a good start Max will put +1 sec fairly quickly. Tire degradation will be key to race pace and order.

If that is the case, then Gasly’s car is faster with mediums than softs

What went wrong for Perez? I saw him with the mediums, but I didn't see his lap. What happened? o_O

Hamilton's car setup has been focused on race pace/tire degradation for sometime now, not speed. But if Max is consistent, he has a chance to win the championship.

Lap got disqualified due to track limits.

He stated it would take him 4 to 5 races to get more familiar with the car.

Too much season and development left. It’s about this race. Max has THE car currently, but as said after testing, we know there will be in-season development. The question becomes, ‘what is the potential for improvement for both RBR and Merc?’. Merc knows they have balance issues to fix and that’s related to their rear end. RBR has a well balanced car and it topped the speed stat in qualifying.

I think it sets up to be a similar season to 2018, when Ferrari had the car at the start, Merc made developmental gains, but Ferrari (read: Seb) fell apart under pressure. The challenge for Max will be to maximize points while he has the advantage and then keep a steady head as Merc makes gains, Luck will factor also (reliability, etc) in both garages.

Max’s lap was impressive - though I do worry about race day when he will be left alone against 2 Mercs.

I was probably most impressed by Gasly. Putting the Alpha Tauri in 5th is impressive (as is Charles’ 4th!). It looks like the RB gang really has really pulled things together, and Honda has worked a little engine magic.

Seeing McLaren strong in 6 and 7 is also gratifying. Here’s hoping they race well and can push the cars in front.

Should be a good race tomorrow

Looks like Haas is the doormat this year - even worse than Williams.

    Interesting things to see tomorrow:

    - Buggy starts: has RBR addressed their 2020 start issues? (I can’t imagine they haven’t)
    - How many stops? If a 1-stopper, I think RBR wins handily
    - Medium tire advantage: Merc seems to have a slight edge on mediums, RBR has a larger advantage on softs
    - Patience: will Max attack as the favorite or focus on controlling from the front
    - Charles will beat Bottas. Gasly may also
    - Where does Fernando finish?
    - Tsunoda moving through the field
    - Marzaspin crash out ASAP....hopefully not taking anyone with him

I think the finishing order may be all over the place with some surprises. That would be a good thing

There will only be 1 Merc as Bottas will get dropped as normal, hoping Chuck can get him off the start

Nice quali to start the season! After many years of Merc domination, it looks like we’ve finally got a season on out hands. What a relief!

Congrats to Max on a great performance. Lec and Gas also top performance.

Ferrari look to have overcome the PU issue which is a great relief. Sadly we still have donkeys running the team and strategy do I won’t get too excited just yet.

Mazespin earned his nick name today. What a clown.

Should be a great race! Can’t wait!

I think Merc has won so many championships that we forget Seb led the chase in 2018 up to race 11 (Hockenheim)

    Agreed on everything.

With regards to Ferrari overcoming their PU issue I believe it's the track which at the moment suits Ferrari. Let's see how Ferrari does at more powerful tracks

    Respectfully disagree,
Last years they were 2 seconds off the pace.
This is a strong engine track.
