    What purpose does this material serve? I don’t have this pad on my 512i BB.

    My guess is heat too but having no pads only matters at a judged event. Someone reproduces them now but the price was close to the cost of a set of tires.

    Functionally, it would make more sense to Lizard Skin them to protect the plemums from heat, IF you're concerned about the sun heating them up.
