I have 2 steering wheels which I thought both came on a 308. However, when comparing them side by side, one is noticeably stumpier than the other although diameter is roughly the same. The spokes are not as long and it doesn’t appear to be a perfect circle. Other than the one in my possession, I don’t think I’ve ever seen it anywhere else.

Thoughts on what car it came from? Value?

The other wheel is on my car I don’t have a good pic of it at the moment, but I am sure it’s the 308 wheel.

I think you are right. 328 version appears to have a stumpier look vs 308 version.

Momo Monte Carlo before finger pads inside the rim. I bought one for $100 a few year ago but leather needs work. I would think $200-$250 if in pretty good shape. I like it.

I think they all have the finger ribs behind the wheel. I was referring to the newer version having finger /thumb rests just above the horizontal spokes on the inside diameter of the wheel.
Not sure but I would think think the F Italy means it’s for a Ferrari? Maybe that makes it worth more but I don’t know.
I’ll have check my momo because it came out of a BMW 2002.

What is the difference between a 308 and 288 steering wheel?

From images I have seen I believe it to be a Monte Carlo without the two areas above the 3 & 9 spokes that bulge to the inside of the rim. The Monte Carlo that I have mentioned in a post above looks to be the same.

Well, the horn button is a 328 not a 308

I have had that Monte Carlo in my Scirocco for 30 years

No, my 85 QV 308 built Jan 85 has the same horn button, a horn on top of the horse. It might be overlap with the introduction of 328.

No I'm not the original owner. But PO left me with a binder of all receipts from new and nothing on horn button replacement. I got Copa Bella Machinna two years ago, I guess it passed the test with 4 different judges with one owns a 328.

I have never seen a 308 with the horn on the button.

They are/were cheap. I had one with the horn on my VW MOMO in college. I am not always impressed with Judges at the FCA. Some are top notch but back in 01 I had to explain to one what the plug was for under the dash. Even the 308 owner didn't know it was there.

Maybe yours really did come that way. Back then things were different at the factory.

With Ferrari almost anything is possible so I would think it is probable that a late production 308 got the horn button with the yellow horn on it.

The MOMO Monte Carlo wheel is perhaps a style that is copied more than any other so the first thing I would try and determine is if the wheel actually was made by MOMO. OEM wheels normally had a date stamped on the backside of the vertical spoke whereas the off the shelf wheels normally did not. It may sound like a small detail but if you are paying a premium for a period correct OEM part these things can affect value a lot.

This my actual Wheel. i just viewed a video of the interior of a 288GTO on youtube and it looks like a Monte Carlo with a horn button that covers the mounting hardware.

If one goes out a buys a Momo “Monte Carlo” they ALL have the bulges on the outer rim. They’re not smooth perfect circles. Only a genuine Ferrari Momo comes without the bulges.

This is what a Momo Monte Carlo looks like if you buy directly from Momo. Bulges in outer rim, no finger indents in the back, and french stitching not fully all the way on inside of wheel.

The Momos built specifically for Ferrari have their own specific look with Ferrari part numbers.

In short, the abundant $250-350 Monte Carlos on the market are not period correct in both build dates and look. Even from Momos early catalogs, they are not exactly the same as what they built for Ferrari.

Here is my non-Ferrari Monte Carlo.

I bought it about 30 years ago.

Notice the depressions for your thumbs. And it has a form fitting area for your hand.

This old thread from 2003 shows the version I have with a part number and described correctly.

“The #136549 is a Momo 350mm Black Leather Wheel with a slight oval cross section, 27mm when viewed from above and 32mm from the side. This wheel is for a 208/GTB/308QV/328/GTO. ”

It is slightly oval hence, the stumpier look. I did not notice it until I received it and compared it to others I have. I also noticed it did not have “Momo” engraved in the front. It has a build date of 1988, so I’ll assume it is for a 328. I feel it’s pretty rare as I can barely find any pics of them an NO ONE has one for sale. Eurospares has 2 used ones in rough condition under that specific part number going for about $2k and upon viewing the photos, it is not the same stumpy version I have. They are the standard ones with “momo” engraved in the front. Odd to see 2 different items with the same part number.

I purchased these steering wheels pre 2010 for my 355, so I’ve had them for quite some time.

Attached are rare photos of what it looked like new (not mine).
