Has anyone taken out the pipe unions off the fuel distributor? I have a 85 QV GTS. These bolts on my car are discolored and wanted to cadmium plate them. Anything to watch out for? Will it screw up the way the car run? She's running good right now and I will leave them alone if it is advised not to do so.

No, those banjo bolts have no effect on the operation of the CIS fuel distributor -- but you will need new (annealed & dead soft condition) W60 Copper washers (10mm x 14mm x 1mm IIRC -- but check that).

Its not cadmium plating, just yellow passivated zinc

Kcab. Buy new ones sound like an easy option. They have variety sizes. How can you tell what size the banjo bolt? I use the 14mm rachet tool and it fits.

If you have access to yellow re-plating then I would re-use the old ones. Use specific recommended torque when making them up again. They are fragile and breaks easy.

Thanks Peter. I have some other items to be plated so I will do these all together. Where can I find the torque specs?

Another source is PartsKlassic, a vintage Porsche supply house. I just bought some parts from them to repair a NLA broken fuel line (from the fuel distributor to injector) on my ur-Quattro. I think that they have been mentioned on this forum several times by people fabricating new FI lines on 308I-328. I usually get a bag of copper washers from McMaster, way cheaper than individually.

Removing the fuel lines is not a big deal. FWIW, here is an explanation of how the CIS system works and an old video to show it in animation.

Not the wrench size, just put a cheap harbor Freight or expensive Starrette caliper on the barrel and figure out how many millimeters it is it's not going to be point anything just 10, 11, 12...

Here you go....I believe yours is a metric size 10 x 1 mm. Remember fresh or re-heated copper washers.

If you shop around you should be able to buy some new ones cheaper than going to the trouble of re plating, as these are standard parts. Also the plating can introduce fatigue in parts, so if they have been done years ago will it be a good move to repeat the process. Banjo bolts fail at the holes due to over tightening, seen a lot break on diesel engine fuel pumps due to the injection pulses.
