Hey guys been in process of sorting out my car issues after recent purchase. Latest episode was car shifting to N around 3-4 gear along with other symptoms. Long story short, mechanic doesn’t think it’s the clutch but instead recommended actuator rebuild from GTE engineering. Cost= $3600.

He said he’s pretty positive this is the issue. Wanted to post it to you guys to see your thoughts. Anything else I should consider here? Thanks in advance

Before going for that expense ..

I would recommend to check pump pressures and sound when running , change accumulator and do a true bleed of the actuator by taking it off, change orings on screws, using screws (Internal bypass when loose )bleed the actuator and then bleed the clutch

    Do a relearn

    And test

Ok I know he changed the accumulator and relay on last visit. I’ll check on the bleed. Thanks!

Is a actuator rebuild something that anyone else has had to do? Didn’t know these would need to be rebuilt

The actuator on my 360 was disassembled and cleaned last year before I bought it. I spoke to the mechanic who did it. It wasn't shifting properly, but a Leonardo indicated that the electronics and hydraulics were fine. Disassembly and cleaning did the trick. I don't think any seals were replaced. The mechanic didn't charge that much.

I was having similar issues with my 2005 F1 gearbox. Brought it to the dealership and they confirmed that the actuator needed to be rebuilt. They sent it to GTE. I had read all good things about GTE so that’s what we did. I really can’t say anything else that might help you. So far everything is fine except my wallet is ten grand lighter. Oh well, life goes on !!!

I had this happen this week. It was leaking and mechanic took it apart and saw the seal had failed. I shipped it to gte this afternoon.

Yes sir, that’s for everything. Foreign Cars Italia in NC did the removal, shipment and replacement of my GTE rebuilt unit.
I’ve never thought about working on my 430 myself, but I do lots on my old Chevrolets.

Saw that you had your actuator rebuilt. Where did you send it, address, and what was the cost?

    Thanks

you might try wiping down the potentiometers, if they have oil on them.

I had Foreign Cars Italia in Greensboro, NC do the job. They sent the unit to GTE in New Jersey. I’m sure you can Google GTE and get their contact information. They are also on Ebay selling units and other parts. I don’t know the price FCI paid them for their work ? I don’t believe it’s more than 4 grand for their job.
    Hope this helps !!!

Dropping into neutral can mean many things. If it happens in just one gear, it's one issue. If it happens in all the gears, it's another issue altogether. Fault codes and solenoid leakages tests are needed, else you're just guessing.
