The good sign for Ferrari is they stayed relatively close to the leaders—who were fighting and going for fast lap, so not hanging about—after being passed. McL/Norris soft tire gamble gave him the lead on Leclerc and although Leclerc seemed faster, not sure they would have made the sifts last. Wow, Hill admits HAM was “incredibly lucky”—no kidding.
And fastest lap, keeping merc and himself still on top. He did get lucky a bit too. Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk
Define "relatively". The midfields gap to the top 2 is still absolutely massive, as demonstrated how easily Ham's Merc cut through the field. Without redflag Max would have won by 40-50 seconds ahead of Lec. That is an eternity, next year can't come soon enough
I would add Bottas to this list... Bottas actually moved to the right, Russell could probably not assume he'd still have enough space on the track so he also moved, which put his right wheels on the grass and caused the spin and accident. He could have ignored Bottas' move, but he had no guarantee by how much Bottas would go to the right - at this speed it was a tough call to choose between moving (and risking to spin in the grass) or risking to crash into Bottas. Bottas' move was completely unexpected and unnecessary, so for me he's the one guilty even though he left enough space to Russell to stay on the track.
+1 he moved over too far did Russell, Bottas entitled to the racing line. He was passing and not Bottas so its on you George not Bottas as it is a narrow track and he took the OUTSIDE line and not a dry line lol. I think this will be judged 'racing incident' overall.
I say its Russell's fault, he should have backed off, even if you hit the grass its better to be off the throttle
Since I was watching him racing in the ‘90’s, you can assume my comment is more of surprise of how he/I have aged versus one of derision. Time doesn’t march on, it flipping sprints!
Perez is so lucky Bottas is taking the focus off him. What an absolute mess of a race from him, Red Bull could have build constructors lead, but no, Sergio spinning like Vettel in a Ferrari
Guys in new cars that are not doing well: Perez, Alonso, Vettel, Sainz, Ricciardo....when compared to their team-mates. Rookies; Yuki, Mazepin, Mick.
That's my understanding too. It seemed to me that, Bottas started drifting to the right, and Russel took put 2 wheels on the grass to avoid contact. That looked like a normal reaction for someone to avoid a big crash at that speed. I hope this will be investigated. The camera footage should show who's at fault. The trouble now is that defending too aggressively is tolerated.
Oh is Russell is being a bit drama boy here lol- Shut up and keep your ego in check Williams driver. He knows he's good. Its better to be humble than ridiculous accuser like this. He was idiot last year tossing points. Russell: Bottas may not have made same F1 Imola move on another driver By: Luke Smith Apr 18, 2021, 11:45 AM George Russell has questioned Valtteri Bottas’s “dangerous” move in their Imola Formula 1 crash on Sunday, saying he would have acted differently “perhaps if it was another driver”.
No question. George spooked himself. Bottles wasn’t Shoe pressing Rubino to the wall in Hungary. However, we might have witnessed a chink in Russell’s armour that might arise again.
