actually, you are swaying me towards the 612 by giving me all the original reasons that she/we picked that one.

If your wife doesn't care 575 vs 612, get the 612 for her. She will be happier.

Early 612s have essentially the same drivetrain as the 575M, with updated F133 engine and F1A software. Much more room with a 2950 mm wheelbase compared to the 2500 of the 575M. All aluminum chassis and body means no rust issues ever. You can even find one with cruise control and Homelink. More modern alarm system, too.

Going from a panamera I'm thinking what others have said that you may want to look at an FF.

FF is technically superior to the 612 and newer but it’s a different kind of car. 612 has the same combination of mellowness and thrill of a Maranello, arguably even more so. FF is a more manic car. I found it tiring in traffic, even in auto mode, restless and too hard. I like the greater refinement of the Lusso.
612s are really great cars. Beautiful to drive, lovely interiors, sophisticated and powerful. I don’t love the looks. And they are a bit too big for where I live. (Not for Houston!) The value is amazing.
    True successor to the GTC/4.

Interesting how we can have differing opinions about these things-i owned a 612 OTO for six years and now own an FF.
I prefer the looks of the 612 but the drive of the FF...!
Both fantastic cars but i think the FF would make a better everyday car
Still dreaming of another Maranello though.

she does not like the looks of the FF, and much prefers the 612.

btw, when covid restrictions are lifted and i can go back to my old travel habits, i intend to buy myself an FF to keep in geneva to drive when i am there - seems eminently practical.

Ferrari of San Francisco has two nice 575 F1's for sale. A black car has just over 5,000 miles and is priced well.

The best place can be Italy, but there are too much restrictions, speed cameras and a lot of police (Polizia Municipale, Polizia Nazionale, Guarda di Finanzia, Polizia Stradale, you name it!) and you can’t go anywhere without driving on toll roads which is somewhat annoying. Therefor I prefer to go fast in Germany, go sightseeing the rest... :)

On this side of the pond the slow drivers automatically gravitate to the left lane (the so called passing lane). The best option is to first consider the right hand lane, if you want to go fast on the freeway.

In Germany you get a ticket for being in the left land (high speed lane) if the right or middle is free...

Theoretically, you do in the US, too, but rarely enforced.

I day drove mine from 2007 to 2011. No issues. The car is a bit older now but I feel I could still use it as a daily.

Please note I made some ease of life mods (see my Mod thread) like adding a CarPlay, backup camera, and a remote trunk opener but it was fine year round in DC.

if you think italy has a lot of speed restrictions and penalties, then you have not driven in switzerland......completely ridiculous now.
the penalties for speeding in switzerland are worse than for assault !
you can mug somebody and rob them in broad daylight and spend less time in jail than somebody who exceeds the speed limit by 50kph.

I know that. But when going in the alps, I don’t feel like it is a problem. It is more about touring. That is some of the beauty of crossing the continent, because you get all kinds of road / speed conditions.

Yes I did too until I got caught... No seriously, I have never ever got one single speeding ticket with the Ferrari. Against all logic! That was more like the 60/70/80s I believe. Anyone have a story to share?

Having lived in the US, UK and now Germany. Lane driving in the US is a joke. Germany has by far the best highway discipline when it comes to any country that I have lived in or driven in despite the fact that police enforcement and ticketing is probably 1/10th that found in the US.

Correct, there is 0 care or attention paid to proper lane driving and etiquette in the US by both drivers and regulators.

it even carries over off the street...to things like escalators. in germany...if not walking up, people stand to one side to allow others who want to walk up a "lane" to pass. never see that in US :).
