Strange noise right rear

I have a noise that I originally thought was a cv joint going bad so two new cv joints and seal replacement from dif. That didn't fix it. It is a noise that happens after car is run for a while and a repeating even as you slow down etc. doesn't seem to happen when car is unweighted as I put it on jack stands and didn't happen. Although it might now have been run long enough.
It's a whack-whack corresponding to wheel rotation. I know that's not much info, but could this be a wheel bearing?
Definitely from wheel area. Can't find any obvious visual rubbing or interference from spring etc. it really does get loud.
I know this is tough to diagnose on here, but any ideas?

 

If you didn't replace the outer CV joint, it could be that or, you could have noisy wheel bearings.

 

It is known that the rear wheel bearing can go bad

 

Mike. I replaced both cv joints on the passenger side. No luck.

 

Check that your wheel weights are not positioned so as to clip the lower suspension arm. I had rear left one that just kissed the suspension at made a tac-tac-tac sound, made worse when turning right. Drove me nuts as i thought it was something in the transmission failing... A shiny sction on the wheel weight gave it away. Peeled off and re glued elsewhere.

Or check that the bushings at suspension arm meets hub aren't worn. I found one with play (slight perceptible rocking motion with wheel off and grabbing the disc). Also on rear drivers side (yes i changed this, drove 200 yards and had the sound still and the found the shiny wheel weight...).

 

Does it go away with brake application?

Slip diff clutches make a noise at slow speeds and when the car is turning....

 

Sure you don't have a nail in you tire.

The hips are both gone, but I know that sound.

 

I had a similar problem and it was a wheel weight on the inside of the wheel hitting the caliper.

 

Bad wheel bearings can lock up while driving (as a friend can testify as a bad one sent his car backwards into a hedge), so make sure you diagnose it quickly.

Bad wheel bearing is usually more of a groan and should go away or get better as you unload that corner.

 

+1 to check your tire... Sometimes a nail (or embedded rock for that matter) will me more audible at certain speeds depending on frequency. I've had that happen and the sound is as you describe.

I've redone the complete suspension on my car, all bearings, bushings, rubbers, brackets, tubes,washers, spacers,ball joints, shims, forks, nuts and bolts including the CV-joints, REALLY EVERYTHING under the car, but that noise is still there. I fear it's the differential.
Next is to change the differential oil and ad an additive for "noise reduction".

Question: please do not laugh, but has EVERY 208/308 a limited slip diff ? If not, how can I make sure, mine is one or not.

 

Bob, 5 years passed in the meantime and I hope you can inform what was the cause. I seem to have a similar kind of issue?

 

Change your motor mounts, that might be the issue, or the rear tires themselves. These cars are posi traction I believe . Both my half shafts are always transferring the power to the road, under load anyways, and around corners with the peddle down.
