It seems the early 930s from 76 to 79 are under appreciated by the market at this point. These cars should be $150,000 to $200,000 not $100,000 to $125,000.. Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk Pro
1979 Porsche 930, 9309800959, yellow with light red leather. Stunning and very rare color combination. Not sure of the production date but not late-enough 1979 for the adjustable sugar scoop headlight bezels and Nippondenso A/C compressor. Nice example but some odd things about the car. I believe it should have snorkel headlight washers and with it being so close to the 85mph speedo transition, it would have been nice to see the VDO date stamp (extremely rare for anyone to do this simple 5-mintue task on BAT). It also has updated dash center A/C vents and Blaupunkt radio knobs that I thought happened about 100 chassis #’s later.
I believe 9309800720 to be the most correct 1979 MY North American Type 1 Porsche 930 I've seen to date on BaT. Not withstanding the rear hit, scattered paint readings, engine mods, and the strange black painted sugar scoops, this one ticked all the boxes in my book. I believe this '79 930 to be amongst the first if not the very first introduction of the flat tear drop headlight washers. . It has the correct; Tear Drop Headlight Washer Nozzles Sugar Scoops Center Dashboard Air Vent Correct Faced Left and Right Steering Column Stalks Correct style 150 MPH Speedometer Correct Inner Circle CR Radio Knobs Correct old style Seat Belt Receivers and Mounts Correct York A/C Compressor Nice example.
You might be right that this is the first chassis # with the flush headlight washers. Even more reason to think they may have refitted the wrong snorkel headlight washers to 9309800724 (also July 1979 VIN decal). 1979 Porsche 930 (...and 78's too!) Seems like a pretty nice example for BHCC. No affiliation. https://www.beverlyhillscarclub.com/1979-porsche-930-turbo-coupe-c-12574.htm
9309800724 was a very nice example of a 1979 930 when it appeared online between 2013-2016. However, sometime during that time the headlight washers were changed. I found this note in my records; "LATEST pictures (Hemmings, Gooding), February/March 2016, of 9309800724 show the Front Bumper with "Snorkel type" Headlight Washer Jets Without Base Gaskets. EARLIER pictures from late 2013 of this car at Indigo and Canapa show it with Flat "Tear-Drop type" Headlight Washer Jets which are appropriate to this VIN." I enlarged the photo of 9309800724 from Rich's previous post to show the incorrectly installed Washer Jets without their Base Gaskets. Image Unavailable, Please Login .

. I apologize. In my previous post seen above, I neglected to credit Mang's former 9309800696 as the first "most correct 1979 MY North American Type 1 Porsche 930 I've seen to date on BaT. While 9309800720 was quite correct, I should have noted it as the 2nd most correct I viewed on BaT at the time. . 9309800696 is back on the market (no affiliation), https://www.pcarmarket.com/auction/1979-porsche-930-turbo-6/ . Note that Mang's former 9309800696 still has the correct earlier tall "Snorkel type" Headlight Washer Jets, while 9309800720 is likely the first 1979 North American VIN 930 to be delivered with the later flat "Tear-Drop type" Headlight Washer Jets. .
Too bad they didn’t spend a few bucks to verify the interior color. The missing brown dye around the vents looks like light red as well. Either way, lobster or light red with this exterior color is likely 1 of 1 for 930 production.
Replaced speedo (180 mph installed). Even if it had a 150 mph speedo, I would never trust a BAT Porsche without seeing the VDO date stamp...so many are dubious. Image Unavailable, Please Login
Agreed. Truly a problem with pre-1981 cars and especially Porsches. Caveat emptor! There is an exorbitant number of early 930's that were repainted, with rebuilt engines, and updated interiors that are being sold with 40,000 miles or less.
