I'm (finally!) going to replace my 328's OEM AC hoses and was wondering if anyone knows the size hose and the size fittings needed for the various connections. The total length of hose would be helpful as well. I realize I could disassemble everything and determine that but I do not want the car out of service for any more than the minimum length of time it takes to pull/replace the hoses. Therefore, I would like everything on hand so I can complete the removal/install in 'one go.'

OR...is there a specific shop that has supplied that for anyone, like a "kit?" Again, this is for a 328, NOT a 308. I know there are kits for the 08 but have never seen one for a 28.

It’s been quite a while since I’ve done this but can tell you what made it very easy was to pull hose from back of the vehicle forward. Had the fittings already attached for the AC compressor and then once pulled through had one of the guys from Napa auto parts come out with his crimper and crimp the new fittings right in place for the front. Easy Peezy. Also took a paper towel and some Dawn dishwashing liquid and coated the outside of the hose before pulling them. Went very smooth.

Thought I used Gates green stripe hose but that might have been for the heater hoses in the other rocker

Although I don’t quite remember the size of the hoses used, I did what Kim did only I borrowed a portable Hydraulic crimped from a mechanic friend of mine..

This is similar to the one I used..

I’m pretty sure that there are 3 sizes needed in total,,The two that from the front to the back are two sizes and I’m pretty sure that the one liquid line from the condenser to the TX valve could be another size.

My 308 had three sizes, #6, #8 and #10. For hose length I just measured/estimated on the outside of the car and added a few feet for safety. I wasn't short. The #8 and #10 ran from the compressor and the #6 just ran from the dryer to the expansion valve and condenser. Like all plumbing jobs, it took multiple shopping trips to get all the right parts.

Thanks Brian; I'm betting the 328 hoses are the same size other than length due to the different placement of the condenser. :)

Totally concur re plumbing! My record for that is 5 trips to the hardware store for the same project. ;)

Do not know where in Texas you are but Austin Rebuilders has been great and typically makes hoses while you wait. Many want to use aluminum fittings. On the 308/328 I suggest steel like the OE at least at the compressor. The engine rocks enough and the hoses off the compressor are short enough alloy fittings will not always stand the shear loads and break off.

Brian (Rifledriver) , in the 328 are you able to install the AC Lines complete with fittings attached to both ends and still route them through the same area? Just curious if this was a change made between QV and 328 series.

I would love some info on this too. Did you have to remove the passenger gas tank to get the hoses in and out?

Yes. If the fuel tank is out its not a bad job. Easiest with 2 people but I have done it alone.

Thanks RifleD! I'm in San Antonio and try to avoid Austin at all costs! :) It's not the town I recall from my UT college days...:(

Can I ASSUME that the Ferrari components all use "standard" size fittings - ie, size 6, 8, whatever? IOW, if the tube portion of a 328 AC hose measures to be a size 8, will the threads match a current standard size 8 fitting or did they do something different back then? I don't want to buy individual fittings in current sizes to find they won't match the condenser/evaproater/other components.

Good news. I bought 5 acres out near Bandera and going to build a house and shop on it.

But seriously if you do not find a good A/C shop down there it might be worth the trip.

I don't know how standard they are. A/C people always seem to know what they are. Its not like Ferrari oil hoses.

Bandera? One of our favorite little towns! We almost bought a house/property there about a year ago but ended up doing a bunch of remodeling on our house in San Antonio instead.

My plan is to cut the various AC hoses close to the fittings and then remove the fittings and match them with new ones to ensure there are no surprises when attaching them to the OEM condenser and evaporator. I will not do any car disassembly other than the minimum necessary to get to the fittings/cut them off the hoses. Then, when I acquire the correct fittings/new hose I'll do the necessary work to run the new hoses using reduced size barrier hose since it is claimed to be easier to work with.

If you have the choice I recommend reduced barrier hoses. Even with the reduced diameter of those it was a tight pull for the long hoses. I think there's no way to get fittings through the channel on my QV, I crimped ends on after the hose was run through the car.

Reduced barrier hose takes reduced barrier fittings, they aren't interchangeable with standard hose/fittings.

Agreed, I think it would be near impossible to run the hoses with the fittings attached to them through the sills.

Thanks, I plan to use the reduced barrier hose/fittings. The local Napa doesn't carry assorted fittings in stock. :( BUT I found a local car AC shop that can so I plan to take the fittings in sometime this week. I will buy a hose crimper and install the fittings after the hose is routed.
