That's not an insult, a sarcasm at most Do you exactly know what is an insult? It doesn't seem so.

Yes, I agree, Mercedes had a bad weekend, well below their standards.

But you know what, I expect them to correct that very quickly, that's the way they operate.

Despite numerous attempts by the Mercedes pitcrew, the problem ultimately forced to team to tell Bottas to switch his car off and retire from the race.

Mercedes confirmed that “the wheel nut machined onto the axle and couldn’t be removed” at the pitstop.

“I don't know what happened in the pitstop to be honest, I don't know yet if it was human error or a technical issue,” Bottas said in the TV pen following his retirement.

“But in any case, we need to learn from it. It's a big mistake by us and it should not happen.”

“I really enjoyed to be back fighting for top positions, but on the other hand we all know that it’s a one-off. The car was very good on this track but from next race onwards we will come back to reality and unfortunately we won’t be fighting for these positions again, so that’s why it hurts a bit more than normal, but it’s like this.”

    - Charles after the race

Back to the pain for rest of the season.

Salty behavior of late would suggest you’re correct. Poetic injustice today with the wheel problem, but I thought Sainz would pip him anyway. It was an opportunity race for him, but it went into the crapper (again).

I think the whole team joined him there today.

Toto will protest the RedBull and all Flexi wings if they are seen in Baku. This is confirmed.

No Monaco protest. RedBull victory fair and not due to Flex-Wings.

What a missed opportunity. Driver error and probably the pit crew screwed it too. Sainz made the best of the situation.

At least the fight for the championship gets tighter.

Nice to see Ferrari smiling instead of the usual tears and sounds of gunshots coming from the back of the garage.

Yes sainz would've passed him. Bottas pitted first and sainz was right on his gearbox.. Sainz clearly had good pace at this point and was held up by bottas.
He can protest all he likes. Ut if the wings pass the current tests....he can go swivel

Well, the front wings did flex here at Monaco. They showed an on-board front wing camera view and you could see the Redbulls front wing flexing. I saw it.

What an incredible favor granted by Mercedes! Is Toto in person going to ride on Max’s rear wing to check the bending?:p

Binotto: We need to fully understand what happened. The failure was with the drive shaft into the hub on the left hand side. So, it was not a gearbox problem. The gearbox was inspected yesterday evening and it has been revealed but somehow that I think the gearbox was okay for the race. So, what happened was on the opposite side to the accident. It could be completely unrelated to the accident. We need to carefully understand and analyse but we have no issue.

As I said at the beginning it was not a gearbox failure. So, there was no gamble on the gearbox and we are fully confident that the gearbox would be alright for the race, but again what happened needs an explanation

Being addicted to F1, I followed the race, although the result was quite predictable after qualifs.

Credit to Max who did a sensible race, and collected the win he deserved.

Verstappen now lead the championship, that that could be a turning point in Red Bull's fortune.

Early in the year, I did stick my neck out and predicted he would be WDC this year.

What I didn't expect was a complete Ferrari collapse on the grid. That has been discussed at length already.

At least Sainz saved the day for the Scuderia by finishing 2nd.

Norris never stops to amaze me; he is doing most of the heavy lifting at McLaren.

I am just wondering what's happening to Ricciardo these days.

Not a good weekend for Mercedes. Hamilton never recovered from a poor grid position, and Bottas "suffered" yet another wheel nut malfunction (cough, cough ...).

Vettel was a surprise, but what about Alonso?

Monaco isn't really indicative of performance, it's more style over substance, but we have to accept it as it is.

Which brings question: Should that circuit stay on the F1 calendar.?

Monaco may be historic, but it's drowned in boredom.

Even a former F1 driver admitted that the cars are too fast and too big for Monaco now, and that the GP has become an old and tedious race.

An on line pool among BBC TV viewers asking if Monaco should be kept on the calendar next year gave that result:

    Yes: 2500 No: 12 400 !!!

    That says it all.

Come on, you know that was meant as an insult. Just admit it, you’ll feel better about not having to lie. :)

Not so sure about that. Lewis was already making excuses about Baku, post-race; slow corners and cold track not suiting his car, yada, yada.

Maybe this budget cap is crimping their style and they will surely need to spend money to make wheel hubs for Bottas’ car to match the ones on Lewis’ car, ha-ha. At least the design is already done.

I don’t think he mentioned the RBR flex wings but he’s probably saving that one until he sees how they actually perform.

The silver lining in all of this was it was a disaster for Mercedes and Hammy. Along with Carl's second place not a bad day.
