The spec calls for 34R battery, a reversed terminal battery.

The owners manual drawing shows the battery terminals located towards the rear of the car.

On my car, the POS cable is on the left rear/drivers side of the battery. I have a group size 24 battery, not a 34, which is an inch shorter.

Yet, my group 24 battery is NOT a reversed terminal (24R or 24F) location battery.

(The 24 fits fine, but the front top edge of the battery case is really, really close to the battery cover panel.)

The BCI chart says a 34R battery should have the POS terminal on the rear, right, passenger side of the car.

My negative battery cable grounds to the chassis directly to the right/passenger car side of the battery, same side as the NEG terminal.

Did somebody already change my battery cables around to use a normal, non-R battery, or what?

I don't think so -- the terminal locations you describe seem OK.

Both the 150/78 OM and the 161/78 SPC show the battery terminals towards the rear of the car and the positive battery terminal on the LH (US Driver's) side of the car.

When using a 34R maybe people are moving the terminals to the front of the car? The battery "spec" shown on page 103 of the 150/78 OM is not 34R (i.e., 34R is just something people like to use).

NEG lead is on passenger side and connected to chassis, POS is on driver side. Runs from driver side all the way back to engine compartment. 1978 308 parts book

That TAV 116 figure from the 161/78 SPC does not agree with the battery figure on TAV 43 -- but do agree that the important thing is positive on LH side, negative on RH side.

Of course, LH and RH can be relative, depending on whether the terminals are at the front or rear of the battery as you look at it.

But we still have the issue of the spec calling for a 34R battery, and a non-reversed group 24 battery having the terminals in the "correct" location.

I notice in the drawing shown above, shows the batt terminals at the FRONT of the battery (which would be correct for a 34R), while the drawing on page 104 of my owners manual shows the terminals at the REAR of the battery.

    Thanks,

    Doug

Not Ferrari's spec -- see page 103 in the 150/78 OM.
