Anyone see or compare, 1/4 times between leaving it in Auto or Manually Paddle shifting? You would think Auto would be a perfect RPM, every time or Shift. Paddles would have driver error. Thanks. Sent from my iPhone using FerrariChat
What about at a matched RPM from a roll? Will an Auto or Paddle give you quicker acceleration through the gears? (I know which is more fun! ) Sent from my iPhone using FerrariChat
Unless you have a dyno sheet with the torque numbers, it will be difficult to calculate the best shift points. A car often gets slower if you shift at redline because you end up changing down to a place in the torque curve where peak torque has dropped off. This is why the car is maxed out when using LC. Ferrari has put the shift points at the optimum places. Some complain that the car might be slower because it does not rev out in each gear, but that's just nkt the case and they lack the knowledge of what's going on. See where the car shifts gears during a launch, that will tell you where the best shift points are - at least as,a ballpark estimate. If you just wring it out in each gear, you will not be fast. This was proven by Brooks on Dragtimes. Launch Control and auto shift was best 1/4 mile and 0-60 etc times.
But my understanding is that Launch Control is the only set-up where automatic gear changes are optimised for performance - meaning that apart with LC from a standing start, one is likely to achieve better performance if shifting manually (and in theory one should be able to manually match the auto LC, although it may be pointless).
The 488 has to have Auto off to use PS (Launch Control). Will it shift automatically from manual mode using PS or will 1st gear bounce off the Rev limiter. Not much time to control spin, watch road and shift out of 1st from PS (3000rpm) take off. Add in my white tach, where you can’t see the numbers on a bright day. Aces.. I noticed this tonight while using dragy. I was using PS and was wondering why the hell it was shifting for me.
