Has anyone found an alternative to the OEM seat back lever?

3 of mine decided to disintegrate on the same day.

    Part no. 64341600 HANDLE/RECLINER for the 'non-spider'

What once was a $2.32 part is now $55.97/£30+ each!

    Any guidance would be appreciated.

    Cheers.

Prices are going up across the board as recently announced by Ferrari apparently.

Good luck. Might just have to eat it.

    Thanks Ian.
Yes it does seem indulgent to have so many levers in such a small car. They seem like such generic parts I thought there might be a Fiat Group equivalent.

Yes I might have to. It's not so much the $ outlay, it's the principle of paying over 20x the price for a rubbish piece of plastic.

I will build a CAD file for it and see how effectively I can 3D print one, just for fun.

I think the community will move towards 3D printing significantly in the coming years with the price & availability of a lot of parts making it more and more worthwhile.

It will be dimensionally identical. The primary issue will be to ensure the surface finish is equal or superior to the OEM. Will increase the sidewall thickness slightly to improve the structural rigidity.

I also am looking for a LH one of these, if you have the ability to draw it up in CAD I have access to 3D printers if it helps.

In case anyone in the future is interested...

Ordered one replacement part as a benchmark against my 3D printed part. Replacement part 064341600 is even worse than the part which was fitted to the car originally. It neither looks the same, nor has the same internal dimensions. I'd go so far as to call it junk. Not worth $2.32, never mind anything close to the current asking prices. Multiply it by 4 and it's crazy money for crap. I will be replacing all my levers with the dimensionally-correct reinforced levers I have modeled and printed myself. Just need to perfect the surface finish and it's 'job done'.

For my 355 spider, I bought a set of aluminum levers from Carnutdallas, they are black, gorgeous and won't wear out or disintegrate - ever. Maybe see if he's still manufacturing them.

I think he is looking for ones for a GTS or B. I was able to find 2 new ones from ferrari about 3 yrs ago and am very careful to grab them closer to the pivot to avoid cracking the rubber covering. Just a bad design.

Yeah, I have 2 original "spongy type" new ones for my spider, I keep them wrapped in bubble wrap in a box of spares since they are as rare as unicorns.

I think I'm going to start buying two of every part that I replace. Just sucks that a lot of these are going either no longer available or doubling in price.

That's exactly why I replaced just about everything in my car. Then most of the old parts I put back in the new boxes and stored them. Current parts on the car aren't going to get better with time and they're going to get harder to find.

Quite a few things I've purchased in the past few years are now nla.. I literally just bought a shifter housing gasket earlier last year, now they are no longer available. A few years back I bought the clear euro turn signal indicators for like $150 a piece brand new from Ferrari, now they are impossible to find for $600 plus to mention a few

While watching a youtube review of the Ford Sierra Cosworth RS500 the other day, I noticed the Recaro seats had the same levers. Unbelievably, prices for the 'Ford' boxed replacements are even more than our 'yellow and black' boxed parts. There is one UK seller on eBay advertising 3D printed recreations for £12 plus postage, so that could be an option for some. Surface finish is straight out of the printer though.

Gave my printed parts a light 'wet and dry' sanding before spraying them with a plasti-coat type finish. For me, they are not only significantly stronger but also better finished than the current OEM replacement part. #064341600 will stay in its box and be put on the back shelf out of sight. One step short of the bin where it rightfully belongs.

I will happily pay for Tubi headers, Capristo exhausts and anything Hills Engineering offers, but paying for £30/$56USD (x4) for a replacement part that is total rubbish is just taking the p*ss.

    Hello Dayan
Can you post your 3d print file? I created one last week for the shifter gasket part 159389 and posted the file to the thread here: https://www.ferrarichat.com/forum/posts/147919528/.

This will allow other members to refine the file or send it out to a print service if they do not have a 3D printer. We need to start building an archive of these files as the parts become NLA.

Will do. I do want to strength test it 'in use' a little before I put my name to it.

As mentioned previously, the 355 seats are the same as those found in many other 1980s/1990s cars such as the Ford Sierra Cosworth, Escort RS Turbo etc. These seats are made by Recaro and are called LS-C (1980s Recaro seats were modular so the backrest has a code such as LS or LX depending on the shape of the side bolsters, and the base has a code such as B or C which denotes the style, so for example the 355 style seats have an LS backrest and a C base thus giving a LS-C, the VW Golf GTI Mk2 optional Recaros had an LS backrest but a B base, so were called LS-B etc etc). These ranges of seats are also often generically referred to as Expert / Specialist or N-Joy. Spare parts for Recaro seats are available via a Recaro dealer, this company in the UK have the levers in stock and they seem to be a genuine Recaro part and aren't very expensive:

    https://www.capitalseating.co.uk/backrest-tilt-release-kit-2

This company also have other parts available such as various handles/base webbings etc. If you require any replacement foams for these seats they are widely available either via a Recaro dealer or a few suppliers on Ebay, if you just look up "Recaro LS foams" you will find something. The side foams for the base are available, as is the centre base foam, seat base extension foam and centre backrest foam. Unfortunately the side bolster foams on the backrest don't seem to be available but this may change in future as Recaro have recently started manufacturing these seats again.

    Hope that's of some use....
