360 Time for a Brake Rebuild?

    I bled the brakes as part of total fluid change on my new-to-me 360, and found gunk within the system. Some nipples wouldn't bleed until I removed them and ran a thin wire through the holes. I saw particles of stuff within the passing fluid. The old fluid seemed to be ATE Super Blue, and that was discontinued, like 5 years ago?

    So, is this indicative of brakes that need rebuilding?

    Not necessarily. if the bleeder valves didn't have dust caps, crap could accumulate there and it's not really in your system.
    ATE Super Blue is just the same as ATE Gold Type 200 with a dye. It's been discontinued years ago.
    I use ATE Gold Type 200 in all my cars, street and race....

    Not necessarily. if the bleeder valves didn't have dust caps, crap could accumulate there and it's not really in your system.

    The dust caps are in great shape. And, any crap that was in them was taken out when I cleaned it with the thin wire.

    Yes I know, that's why I'm concerned.....who knows how long that fluid has been in.

    Remove the lower crossover at the bottom of the caliper and blow that out. Start there.
    How were you bleeding the system?

    I was using a Schwaben power bleeder. However, I was using low pressure because the reservoir top blew off at 18lbs and 10lbs.

    Once you put the bleeder screws back and keep bleeding, if it comes out clean. I'd say you're fine...

    Well, I still have some in my race car. I had a case of 6L and switch back and forth with Gold every season for a full flush... I think I have 1 or 2 liters left still ;-)
    OTOH, plenty of street cars with 10y brake fluid in them... Changing it every year is slightly overkill. The brake fluid doesn't see the abuse of the engine oil or transaxle oil...

    Check the brake fluid reservoir also. Mine deteriorated and fouled the master cylinder with plastic particles.

    I don't know - flotsam and jetsam. The fluid should be absolutely pristine. If not, then its been too long between flushes. I have my brakes flushed annually and this popped up out of the blue. Bobileff does my maintenance and they hadn't seen it either so they checked with Ferrari of San Diego who said they had seen the problem on several 360's. Interesting that the reservoir's material looks just like the plastic in the the fuel pumps many of use have replaced.

    Search "360 brake flush problem".
    I had the same issue. Several Pro's took the time to provide advice and suggestions based on experience. Brake reservoir deterioration is a possible source. Also been seen multiple times with Shell Brake Fluid.
