Would you rather buy a high mileage 458 spider, say 50,000 miles or more or a lower mileage spider under 20,000 miles with a ding on the CARFAX?

I’d take whichever one is in better condition via a PPI. That’s what mileage is supposed to be—an indication of condition—but it often proves a poor one.

So the ding on the CARFAX wouldn’t bother you. Say both have clear PPI

I would not buy a 458 , I would buy a 488, F8 , the only way your going to maximize fun without a manual gearbox, is with a sick twin turbo motor sadly with paddles. I have come to this conclusion while riding my Ducati Streetfighter V4S , with the quickshhifter mode on, and full throttle up and down shifts, it sounds amazingly close to the 488 , and I have not even selected RACE MODE...208 HP 450 Lbs , its sick wicked fast, and the sound, well like I said, its all Ferrari .

    Thank you

If it clears a PPI by a competent and impartial tech who is versed in the make/mode in question, it wouldn’t bother me one bit.

If it is the one that’s in better condition, then yes.

What was the damage done in the accident? Severity is everything.....My Diablo had an accident on the CarFax which looks bad, turned out to be a whopping $6,500 repair...so was a non-issue for me.

Pictures? Repair cost? How does CarFax describe the damage (minor, moderate, major)?

Who's to say the 50k car doesn't have even a bigger ding but not on the CarFax?

context is king, if the ding was minor - no biggie, but as @Solid State said, Carfax misses A LOT of stuff, so the 50K miles might have something lurking...
either car needs a full inspection by a qualified professional. Even then it's not 100% you'll catch everything.

My friend that is a salesman at a Ferrari dealership tells me most everything is selling in two days right now. The supply problems with new cars largely because of the chip shortage has driven people to used cars and that has pushed all the way up to Ferraris. 458s are particularly hot right now.

A warning though... I have heard people in this forum saying that if you can't afford an expensive Ferrari, then you certainly can't afford a cheap Ferrari. Repairs and maintenance will eat you alive with a cheap one.

Even an experienced Ferrari owner like yourself couldn’t gather enough information on the other car to make an educated decision, makes it a hard sell.

It’s depends which one was more taken care of like maintenance. Miles isn’t everything on car car. Low mileage cars that aren’t used often can have big problems too like gaskets drying up and leaking....ETC. Personally which car has the most service and taken car of is the one I would go with. The one with the ding you have to get it inspected and see how they did the work and if there was any major Internal damage. For a fact the paint on it won’t match perfectly depending on the color.
