Rare were the cases when a 512 finished ahead of a 917... :D

True but Ferrari was running a 2 car Formula 1 team simultaneously and winning races in both categories.

Monza 1000kms 1970, the Surtees Schetty car.

This is an enlarged photo I ordered and bought about 40 years ago from DPPI the Levallois (Paris suburb) based sports photo agency. Copyright to them. Not the sharpest shot but I like the fact that the 512 is in front but the 917 looms in the mirror as he looks up into the periscope, symbolic of that season. Surtees led the race early on. They finished third.

Not that it matters but for decades I thought it was Surtees looking in the mirror but having looked at the high res scan I really think it is Peter Schetty. Ironically for a world championship the man behind is also Swiss, from just 130kms away Jo Siffert from Fribourg, Schetty being from Bale (Basel). Within a year Schetty retired and Siffert passed away at Brands Hatch...

Very nice photo. But it was the 917 of Rodriguez/Kinnunen that finished on 1st.
In 1970 the Ferraris had no chance winning against Porsche - they won only one race in the Sports Car Worldchampionship!

I would assume so. Why would he have a replica if not for racing?

The wreck looks ugly, hopefully he's doing fine.

I think that it is Gary Pearson driving the car in post 1291 above. Carlos crashed it when it is thought that maybe the throttle stuck open.
