I’ve thought it might be really fun to install a big time train horn in the frunk of my 360. Any potential problems with this? Anyone done it?

A friend's employee had one in his police-look Crown Vic.

I can't describe how badly I want one of those for the Smart, but we couldn't find the space to fit it all, without just having it inside the passenger compartment with me. We have a bit of a problem with invincible TCU kids with horrible Walk/Don't Walk comprehension skills around here, and I wanna see if I can get one into orbit.

Don't do it! I had one in my truck but ALL of the manufacturers of these horns use rubbers hoses and sh*tty clamps.

The hoses continuously leak pressure and the pumps constantly run to maintain tank pressure. Pump is super loud and annoying. My pump ran continuously until ultimately the motor seized-up and exploded. Not cool.

Worst $2,000 I have ever spent.

    lemme think....

    1. I really don't think it would increase the chance of vandalism of your car.

    2. The 360 could probably easily handle the high electrical power requirements of a large air compressor. This model car and all Ferraris are known for their robust and over-engineered electrical systems.

    Win-Win

Disagree with the robust over engineered electrical system. The alternators are a hand grenade and its output cable is well known to be a problem.

I had a friend with a train horn on the roof of their Chevy Blazer C10. A compressor big enough for the job was impractical. Do not know where you'd put it in a 360. They settled on a compressed air bottle and even with that it only lasted a few short blasts.

Train horns are very loud at close distance. Chances are in the trunk would cause hearing loss to passengers.

In the interest of space in an F-car, you might want to consider a boat horn since a vessel is also severely space limited to accept additional equipment.

I was seriously considering putting one in my truck. With all the dumbass drivers out there, texting etc. I can truely see why you would want one.

Brian, I have SkidKid's old 360 that you did some superb work on, a few years back, when you were in CA. If I ever install a train horn, I'll ship it to you to get it done right. :D

On the serious side (I assume the “train horn” idea is just to use a Ferrari to scare people), I installed Hella SuperTones in my 308. They do 118 dB.

They are modern piezoelectric horns and very compact. I put them behind the battery which is basically in the body cavity so they don’t produce that kind of volume outside my car. They are still plenty loud should someone start backing into me in a parking lot.

I found the factory air horn too quiet and too slow. The Hellas are triggered through a fused relay from the battery. I can swap back to the factory horn by moving one wire connection. Concours judges cannot see the Hellas when disconnected.

Well like I said I know someone who really did it. If you are directly ahead when they are honked. it is a real experience. Loud just does not describe.

I have an old Fiam air horn on an antique farm tractor.
Makes about the same sense as a train horn on a Ferrari.
