I am looking to replace my tires all with original sizes. Front 215-45-18 and Rear 275-40-18. Mostly dry weather, minimal rain conditions. I checked on Tire Rack but not too many choices. The Hankook Ventus V12 evo caught my attention based on their reviews and the cost was considerably less than Bridgestone, Pirelli and a few others. Fronts are $161 each and rears are $211 each. Any thoughts or experience with these?
I have the Ventus they work fine considering how cheap they are. I might try something else next time but there really aren't any good tires available in the stock size.
I have used Hankook Ventus V12 Evo 2. They're...OK if you just drive normally. Would not do any spirited driving on them, just didn't feel that great to me overall.
I would only do PS4S if you get the fenders rolled. Because of the slightly wrong size on the fronts, they can crunch the lip.
None of the top tires are made in the OEM sizes. My personal preference is to get the highest performing street tires available, as they’re your car’s only connection with the road. So mediocre tires in the OEM sizes just don’t work for me. It’s not like a daily driver where long wear, quiet, and superior performance in a deluge will be important factors, since you’re probably not putting 8-10k miles a year on them or choosing to drive in a downpour. I went with Michelin Pilot Sport 4S, in 225/40-18 and 285/35-18 on original starfish wheels. I would have gone with Sport Cup 2s, but they’re not made in any useful 18” sizes for this car. Inflate the 4S to 33 or 34 psi, as I found their sidewalls a bit softer than the RE-11s they replaced. If you want a smoother ride, go with 32psi. Any concern or experience with the tires rubbing the fenders as a poster said fenders should be rolled with these?
No rubbing but I had my fenders rolled long ago. Even in OEM sizes, the RE-11s would rub cornering under track loads. Sent from my iPhone using FerrariChat
I'm also no fan of the standard 430 wheels. Big fan of the CS and Challenge wheels, though. I actually even prefer my 360 Starfish wheels (which may explain my taste level!!!), although the light weights don't hurt at all. Kevin
I think Starfish match the curves of the 360 best, but CS are good looking wheels as well. Wheels have to fit the car, which is why most objectively good looking generic wheels just don't present a cohesive look when installed.
I always thought that the challenge wheels fit the car best and the starfish just looked clunky and odd. But, some like fat chicks, and some like skinny chicks. No matter what the wheel, it is hard to make a 360 or 430 look bad.
To be honest, I didn't drive the 360 a whole lot. But, I've used normal V12 Evo 1s before a while ago, and those gave me good life. I'm sure the V12 Evo 2s are also good on treadlife too.
