First three cars an E Type, 250 Lusso and a GTO, only trouble with that is it's very difficult to continue trading up after those
For those who don't subscribe to Ferrari Market Letter, I did a story a year or so ago featuring Peter's California and his tiger-striped TdF, called "A Subtle Civil War".
Stephen, When you say "pearl white 427 Cobra" there was one Cobra painted pearlescent white when new by Marv Tonkin Ford. The first owner (1967) is reported as Al Pino, Portland, Oregon. He owned it until '73 or '74. Does that name sound familier?
The Tossi GTO must be the one we bought from him in 1970 for $8,400, #3765. Image Unavailable, Please Login
Yes, Cliff- Mario Tosi's GTO was indeed 3765 LM with its one-off, characteristic 'slit' nose modification where the 3 holes are usually found. As I mentioned elsewhere (perhaps earlier on this thread..), the slit remained until the car was restored circa 1990- at which time the decision was made to return it to its original '62 Le Mans configuration. Best, Dave
I'd love to know if they kept the original factory "slit" nose (ex 65 Targa Florio etc) they cut off!! -c
Thanks again for the fantastic footage and commentary! Is there an ETA on your documentary being completed, or have I perhaps missed that somewhere? >8^) ER
It's certainly possible. I was around the car and its home for a good bit when it was finished. That's something I never thought to ask about.
Interestingly, the GTO had Oregon plates on it when I bought it, though I think for tax reasons rather than the actual residence of the fellow who lived in L.A. as far as I know. So, it could be that car. I remember seeing him in the Cobra often on the Ventura freeway. No ETA as yet. I'm in the process of developing two cable TV channels for launch and that has taken priority. The GTO doc could appear as content on one of them. Good things come to he who doesn't wait about.
Just when you think that it can't get better after the first 2 video's Stephen comes up with number 3. Stephen, are we to expect more of this to come out of your treasure chest? It's breathtaking stuff!
How nice to see a PF Coupe in great comany in a historic clip. HOwever, it does demonstrate that the Coupe should never be a red car!! - Dark colours or silver are much kinder to that elegant shape!
Thanks, Stephen. Marvelous stuff! Interesting your comments on the Lusso. Really enjoyed the Army paint job on the Spyder.
I found this thread worthy of revival after over a decade. The footage is amazing and I imagine many here have not seen it as of yet. Go to the first post and watch the Youtube footage, amazing.
