Hi everyone. I have a U.S. spec 95' 348 spider. The parking brake handle no longer holds due to the teeth on the handle/ratchet mechanism being a bit wrecked. It actually pops and releases.
Does anyone know if all 348 assemblies are the same? Anyone have one with tan leather or if the handle itself can be swapped out?

    Thanks!

I think the leather handle on the parking brake itself actually pulls off. I pulled mine almost off accidently one day.

Have you actually inspected the teeth to confirm they are worn? There's other areas of the system that may be causing problems?

BTW I bought a 355 handbrake and it was identical to the 348 and works just fine......it was to replace what I thought was worn teeth that turned out not to be the case at all! DOH!

I too think it’s highly unlikely that worn teeth is the issue.

Why dont you take off the big large shroud an dleave the handbrake in place and you can insoect its operation properly

Unfortunately, the links in that thread are dead, but Superformance is offering a repair kit for the 456, 550, etc (P/N 66956100)

    http://www.superformance.co.uk/v12m/brakes.html

    Cost £169.22 plus P&H.

If #154095 is the new universal handbrake part number (which covers the 550 and the 355), shouldn't that repair kit work with the F355?

I recall that someone even tried to file the teeth.

What was happening with your handbrake?
Great to know it was identical.

I'm pretty sure it's the teeth. The parking brake will just pop and release. Also the brake light will go out. If I'm not mistaken the light contact is in that mechanism.

Why not. It is a very common problem. I do not stock a lot of parts but I do stock those.

Good to here from your experience. I would not have thought they would fail and haven’t seen that.

My friends 348 was driven by someone new to a 348 and fly off handbrake and over pulled the lever. The ratchet over extended so the locking tab was stuck and would not ratchet, I opened up the cover and released the tab from its stuck state with a screw driver and it was working fine. The OP posted the same question on FB and it seemed the car was new to him so I thought it was a case very similar.
