Any body replace their battery with the odyssey 34R - PC1500T battery? It is a direct replacement for the factory battery. I know some people used the PC925 which is a smaller battery in which the mounting must be modified. Is the PC1500 and overkill?
Is it worth the extra cost and weight?

I've been using an Odyssey Extreme 40 Racing Battery for quite some time now. I started with a PC925 but its a pain to leave on the charger every other day. Always worried it will run out of juice before your trip has ended. In the end the Extreme 40 lasts for at least 3 or 4 days (maybe a lot more.. never tried) without issues. Its only a little heavier but has a lot more CCA / capacity yet is still much lighter than the factory unit...

I run pc925 in all my toy cars. But they all sit on trickle chargers and I only take them out for a day at a time. Any car that I might take somewhere for the weekend I don't mess with the battery. Its not worth the hassle if it drains on you if it sits for a few days.

I have the 34r 1500 in my 456. Works great never charge it or disconnect it. I used to go through interstate batterys every year or two. Now I never think about it. I can let it sit for two months no problem. Great battery

For those of you that installed the Odyssey 34r-1500t in your 360, would you choose to use this battery again, or would you use the smaller ODP-AGM48 H6 L3 that Odyssey now lists as the preferred battery? I am asking because I just bought, but have not yet installed the 34r-pc1500t (new number is ODX- AGM34R), and I'm having second thoughts about the reduced clearance.

Specs say 1/2" lower with the 48 over the 34R. Is it that close/tight?

Some comments in other threads raised concerns about the close fit of the 34R. It does require longer tie down rods, which is no big deal. My question is for those that made it work, do they have any concerns related to the safety of their installation, and if they had it to do over would they go with the 48 battery? The reason I am second guessing my purchase is that I just saw on BaT where a one year old 34R battery was removed, and a 48 installed, due to the servicing shop's safety concerns. I have not unboxed the 34R battery yet, so I can exchange the battery if the 48 is the better choice.

I have not checked this myself but seem to recall that the height/safety issue is that the increased height of the 34R puts the terminals really close to a cross bar that could make contact and short them. As it is, the H6 is already a bit taller than the L3 that’s specified.

Thanks for the info need4spead. The height difference is the concern I have. But i have seen other threads where people have used the 34r and used various methods to protect the terminals. Just wondering if the extra cranking power is worth the trouble and the risk.

Personally, I’d not trade the shorting risk for the marginal extra cranking power. I’d get an AGM H6 and call it a day. Or get an Antigravity L3 or Braille lithium ion.
