Ferrari stop all development on their 2021 car Date published: June 19 2021 Image Unavailable, Please Login All eyes have turned to 2022 at Ferrari, with the Scuderia confirming they are no longer developing their 2021 challenger – the SF21. The SF21 has represented progress at the Prancing Horse as they have emerged from the boggy bottom of the midfield battle in 2020 and propelled themselves into a fight for P3 in the Constructors’ standing with McLaren. But, if they are to see off their age-old rivals for the top spot behind Red Bull and Mercedes in 2021, they will be doing it with pretty much the same car now throughout the rest of the campaign. With a regulation reset on the way in 2022, Ferrari want to have as much time and resources possible working on their new car for next season. “From a car development point of view, we have already made our decisions,” Mekies said via Formula1.com. “It is all on 2022, and there will be no real upgrade coming to improve these weaknesses [on the SF21]. “However you can always work on the issues by simply understanding them better, and if you understand them better, either because you correlate them better or you simply understand what are the reasons for which we are performing a bit less in those conditions, it can open the door to solutions that you can already apply.” https://www.planetf1.com/news/ferrari-stop-2021-development/
Reality is a single mistake could be a 25 point swing so u can’t say that a 25 point cushion is enough. Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk
Mercedes had "no choice" but to pit Bottas first in French GP By: Luke Smith Jun 20, 2021, 11:32 AM Mercedes had "no choice" but to pit Valtteri Bottas first and spark the early stops that ultimately cost Lewis Hamilton in his fight against Formula 1 rival Max Verstappen. https://www.autosport.com/f1/news/mercedes-had-no-choice-but-to-pit-bottas-first-in-french-gp/6590196/ Hamilton was able to pass pole-sitter Verstappen on the opening lap of the race after a mistake from the Red Bull driver, and led the opening stint ahead of the Red Bull driver. But it was third-placed Bottas who was the first to pit at the end of Lap 17, moving from the medium to the hard-compound tyre. Red Bull responded by bringing Verstappen in one lap later, with the powerful undercut allowing the Dutchman to jump Hamilton, who waited until Lap 19 to pit. Red Bull made use of Verstappen's track position to switch him to a two-stop strategy later in the stint, forcing Hamilton to stick to a one-stop. Verstappen was able to pass for the lead with fresher tyres on the penultimate lap, clinching the race victory and extending his championship lead in the process. "No, we had no choice," Wolff said. "Valtteri's tyre had started to have a vibration, and towards the end, we were really worried the vibration came through the suspension already. "He could have had a failure at any time, because he flat-spotted the tyres. "We knew that we were going to trigger the stops too early, but [we had] no choice." Hamilton was left confused after the race why he had lost track position to Verstappen at the first round of pit stops, only to be told it was because the overcut had been so powerful. Mercedes strategy chief James Vowles was heard talking to Hamilton on team radio after the race, saying: "This one's on us. Thank you for doing everything you could to recover that race." Wolff felt that Hamilton would have been safe with an extra one-second gap to Verstappen in the first stint. "It went back and forwards," Wolff said. "We were in the lead, because Max made the mistake, so that was a bit inherited. "Then our pace was good. I think probably maybe a little bit of a margin, even, but then we had just about three seconds gap for the undercut, to protect the undercut. "But it wasn't enough. We're lacking a second, and somewhere we lost it."
Utter & complete stupidity, Someone should tell Mekkies you can make a fast car but if you cannot understand and make the current crop of tyres work you are peeing in the wind. Managing tyres is key to winning with Pirelli as tyre supplier and developing the strategy to win. Doing that at the back of the field yields nothing and breeds no team confidence. Placing all you eggs on 2022 car when they havent got on top of these set of regulations in 7 years doesnt bode well.
It's never, ever, ever, ever because of Hamilton. Looking at the way they handle him and he handles himself, it's obvious he has a gigantic and very fragile ego.
Binotto after watching the French GP blue and red stripes on TV for 2 hours Image Unavailable, Please Login
Completely agree with your statement. Don’t know how the same pool of engineers will be able to build a competitive car next year..
Binotto Doesn’t matter because they have the best pair of drivers in the field since Seb left the team ;-)
At least Ferrari is consistantly in the points race. And has shown significant improvement over last year. Ferrari themselves stated they will not be competitive until 2022.
Well yes of course. Let's talk about 2020 and Ferrari: 1) a 2nd fuel flow sensor was implemented thereby hampering performance-->6th place in the WCC standings. 2) COVID-19 3) Italy hit the hardest during the pandemic forcing Ferrari to shut down alot longer than other teams. I consider 2020 and any comparisons to it with regards to Ferrari a vast improvement. I myself go one year further to 2019 to make any comparisons and so far it isn't an improvement.
AMuS Red Bull is preparing their next attack against their championship rival. They have asked the FIA to investigate Mercedes apparently very flexible front wing. "They [FIA] are looking into the case."
What is the reason for the odd trophies for the French GP? They must have a significance I don't know about.
We all know what happend..let's focus on the NOW. The past is exactly what it is..the past. You, me, Ferrari can do nothing about it. Let's move forward..which is exactly what Ferrari is doing.
No significance. Just an artist expressing his view of what the trophy should look like. To me it makes no sense.
Come on Hamilton mess up nooooo.... it’s never his fault. I bet he will cry himself to sleep tonight! I’m glad he lost let’s go max! Sent from my iPhone using FerrariChat.com mobile app
