There were some complaints about people speculating, and the fact that too few copies were published. But let's turn to the register now, the first 1000 copies are offered at GBP 250.- and copies are still available for that price. At some point all registers will be gone (I'm sure this edition will not be in the thousands) and people will start to complain about information not being available to all. So, to all future complainers: please lose no time.

Don't worry, there was plenty of forewarning for the Miura book, WORLDWIDE,
and what did people do? nothing, and now they complain.

You can add: "I told you so" , but will not do much good.

    Go figure :)

    Regards, Alberto

People are obsessed with matching numbers these days. Back in the old days no one really cared. As long as parts were fitting properly.

I wonder who is paying these kind of prices and why? I mean it was hardly a secret it was being published. In the end I baulked at paying the asking price and I can imagine I wasn't the only one but it is hard to imagine that someone who hesitated to pay the original (quite substantial!) asking price would now be prepared to pay ten times much. Or is it just a Ponzi scheme where there is no-one actually buying the book as a book, just people paying silly prices hoping to find someone else to pay an even sillier price?

And I still haven't seen much in the way of comment from anyone who has read it, so I don't actually know if it is that good. Or is it that no-one has actually read it because they're scared they might scuff a page and hit the value?

It is a remarkable book in my opinion, a paean to a magnificent automobile. It is "must have" for any Miura owner past or present. What it is worth is up to the individual? Current asking prices have made me hesitant to use it as much as I would like to, I'm hoping for a more affordable edition to use as a reference book. The Registry will complete the story, I've already ordered multiple copies.

I’ve had the same notions. I don’t like to see books treated as commodities, especially when it seems that that was the intention of the publisher. Of course, many books eventually become collectable over time due to various circumstances and conditions.

I wonder what the response would be...both from original buyers and those who have paid enormous premiums...if Kidston decided to produce, say, a thousand volume second printing at the original price. I still wouldn’t buy the book, not because it isn’t worthy of the price, but simply because there are others which are more desirable to me, and given that space and money are not infinite, it’s just a matter of priorities and choices. It would be interesting to know how many “secondary market” buyers will be permanent owners and how many are speculators.

Maybe kidstons buying up any copies that come onto the market, good way to ensure strong sales of the next one!
I remember a family friend who worked for Audi back in the 90's telling us that Audi bought up any of there V8 model that came on the market in the first 2 or 3 years to try to create the impression residuals were stronger than 7 series/S class.

Thank you for the comment about the content of the book. It is nice to know someone has looked at it. But why do you need multiple copies of the registry? I can see that you might want one to keep pristine and one to actually use but beyond that?

That was exactly my view and given I don't sell my books* only the purchase price is relevant.

    * Actually I do have a few duplicates acquired over the years that I really ought to dispose of if only to free up some space!
