I know this is an old thread, but can anyone tell me how the rotor is "keyed" or connected to the motor shaft? Is there a rubber or plastic part that is supposed to be in there? If so, mine is completely gone. Shaft is spinning inside the rotor, so no air pressure.

Thanks in advance to anyone that can help with this.

If its like the air motors i have worked on, it might have a woodruff key holding the rotor to the shaft. If it is spinning it will come off easy enough. We normally make new keys from a bit of scrap steel.
If it is scrap you can always find a fram air horn compressor

Unfortunately, my compressor is 32V so I can't find one.

Not on a Ferrari, but as these are made in Italy and used on Ferrari's I was hoping someone could lend a hand. Application is air horns on a Hatteras yacht.

Have you get the rotor off the shaft and if so is the key shaped like a coin cut in half across the diameter, that is what a woodruff key looks like
24 volt compressors are readily available but 32v never seen

I pulled the rotor off again and took another look. There is a key slot on the motor shaft, but there was no key. On closer examination, there is a plastic "slotted" insert in the top of the rotor which I believe may have been some sort of key. I punched that plastic part out, fabricated a rectangle key and re-assembled the compressor. Open startup, I noticed that it made some noise, but no air pressure. I reversed the +/- leads and not the pump is running perfectly. Apparently in addition to the key vaporizing, someone wired the horn backwards as well.

Now all is well again. Thanks to all for the assistance.

Do the vanes move easily in the rotor and is the bore of the cylinder smooth. The end bearings should be good otherwise the rotor will be off centre
