Yes, mission requirements changed (900 mile average became a 300 mile average trip). Made a nice profit on it too!

Juan, yes that is the newer model of what was called the Columbia/Cessna 400. When they added FIKI and the G2000 (which is amazing) they called it the TTx. Its the same airplane otherwise. Fastest civilian SE airplane ever built (The Mooney Acclaim and it duke it out over this +/- 5 knots.) Also incredibly strong, which I like. It has TWO spars of carbon fiber. When they tested it at the factory it BROKE THE JIG before the wings failed. They were at +21G's at the time!

No problem for me! Just me and my wife and some bags and 102 gallons of fuel. Nice range, and best avionics package in any single engine plane .

But yeah, they are 140 lbs heavier and beefier than the Cirrus which hurts useful load.

Yes they quit making it 3 years ago due to the fact that it couldn't compete against the "plane with the parachute" because wives so often make these buying decisions and being non pilots they think thats somehow safer (statistically its proven not to be).

Also Cessna never really put their heart into the airplane because truth be known they make single engine planes grudgingly .... they would prefer to be only in turbines because of profit margins.

Its a shame really. If this airplane could have been fine tuned (maybe bring the gross weight up to 3800 lbs under the normal category?) and marketed well I believe the TTX would've competed well against the Cirrus. Having owned both I can tell you in my opinion that it flies much better than the Cirrus. Ford vs. Ferrari (yeah, yeah I know, I own a Ford GT too...;))

    Its truly a pilots airplane.

    Ce la vie!

It was also my understanding Cirrus HAD to add the chute due to FAA requirements because the pane is not spin certified, so tell that to the wives :)

I knew you would come around eventually. ;) what a great plane, many times better than the Cirrus, especially up until Cirrus copied our wing. the parachute and marketing arm of Cirrus kicked Columbia's butt and Cessna didn't do much better. you might have heard this from me, but one of the biggest gross weight limitations was the brakes, I was friends with the test pilots, it would have been another 200 lbs or so just from that. it was truly a full fuel, 4 adults, and golf clubs plane.

I know you are resourceful and have it figured out, but let me know if you need any contacts related to the test pilots, best maintenance, or the club. There were some cool people in the club like Trans Am racer Don Sak and X-Plane founder Austin Meyer (also a Ferrari guy).

Yeah I love the TTx - its such a pilots airplane and it has the G2000. It just does everything.... right.

The brake situation I am in the process of resolving. CAAC and Darryl at Van Bortel are working with me to get 30 firm orders for these :https://www.beringer-aero.com/sites/beringer-aero.com/files/cata_en.pdf

The STC is already in place, they just want 30 orders to do a run. We are at (I believe) 26 now. If anything I will buy the other 4 and just put them up E bay for sale. 7600 but the stopping distance is MUCH shorter, they are lighter and they have a digital read out of tire pressures on the app reducing the annoying times of trying to get a chuck on the main wheels to read them.

Glad you found Darryl! He's the first I would recommend to know, amazing knowledge of the airframe and just a great guy. Planes from around the world come to Darryl for annuals and we have him right there in DFW.

Yep, one of the reasons I chose the one I did. Fully loaded with FIKI (much better resale because it opens up 1/2 the country for winter flying) and Van Bortel serviced since new. The logbooks are some of the best I have ever seen., 5 straight pages of annuals within 2 weeks of each other each year and all by Van Bortel. One owner obviously.

Not true at all. Cirrus fully spin certified in Europe. They were allowed by the FAA to get an equivalent level of safety exception to spin testing because they had from the beginning designed the airplane with the CAPS system. SR2x spins just fine and could easily pass the FAA’s spin requirements but they didn’t have to and wanted to put as much emphasis on the chute as practical. It turns out this was a good idea because the dodgy early safety record (since much improved and pretty much best in the category) was largely due to chute reluctance (and non-pulls) by “proper manly pilots flying the plane right into the crash”

I fly a Cessna Citation but the uninformed (often based in jealousy) old wives’ tales about Cirrus bug me…
