Hello guys, Can someone explain to me which is bank 1 and bank 2 on the ferrari 458 Italia engine. Can you explain to me also which is cylinder number 1 and on which side it is. Its a bit confusing please explain.
Standing looking at the flywheel, the RHS forwardmost plug is #1. Image a "U" shape starting from your reference point. 1, 2, 3, 4->Move to the other side 5, 6, 7, 8 where #8 is the furthest forward on the LHS

This numbering sequence is unchanged from the vintage V-12's. Also on the old engines the sequence was given on a metal plate attached to one of the valve covers. It probably is now cast somewhere on the engine. It would make sense that cylinders 1-4 (RHS) would be Bank 1.
So, looking at the car from the rear, the RHS is Bank #1, with cylinder #1 being closest to the rear window. On the driver's side (USA car), the LHS is bank #2, with #8 being closest to the rear window.
Island Guy has it correct. Ferrari numbers their cylinders down the right side, up the left side. Ferrari usually denotes their banks as LH (left hand) or RH (right hand). Fun video! I installed a few piston/connecting rod assemblies in an F8 engine during my last factory visit. (I'm sure that engine was used only for training and not put in an actual car.)
