330 GTC 9911 on BAT

Well that's what happens when you're flying above your pay grade. She was worth more than my house, it was getting rather silly and I was getting nervous about the market collapsing because it went up so fast. Obviously I sold too early (May 2013) and the market never collapsed, just consolidated a bit. I miss her terribly, as said.

It is very nice to hear that you were inspired by my posts.

Hopefully I will be able to get back in one day, but my first priority now has to be my pension (ironically, of course, if I had not sold I would not have to....). Ah well, life is unpredictable!

I have a broker working on transport, and if they are unable to give me specific dates by the end of the day today, I am going to start looking elsewhere. I appreciate the suggestions from folks. As soon as I get something confirmed, I’ll let everyone know.

Latest update from broker is pickup next Weds and delivery a week later. That’s promising. Shipping via enclosed hard side truck with vertical lift gate. They are trying to see if they can do it sooner, but I’m pretty happy with those dates given everything going on in the transport world right now.

OK, so pickup is now booked for 6/7 July with delivery within a week of pickup. So SHOULD have the car by the 14th. We’ll see how it goes. But positive forward movement!! Anticipation…..

 

Car was picked up yesterday in Los Angeles. Delivery is scheduled for 14/15 July. The seller tried to live stream the loading process for me until his phone overheated. Really nice of him to do that for me. Here’s the video he was able to capture:

May you savor it s much as I did during the twenty-nine years I drove and savored 330/365GTC VIN #10581. They are pricelessly splendid - I believe I recall commenting during your auction that driving a Daytona is like dancing with a Spanish flamenco dancer while driving a 330 or 365GTC is like dancing with a with a teen-age prima ballerina, light but not delicate, and almost heart-breakingly wonderful.

Yes, I found the Daytona to be somewhat brutish compared to the 330 GTC. I was lucky enough to have a friend who owned both of them and he let me drive them back to back. Quite an amazing difference between the two. I also like the 330 GTC over the later 365 GTC/4.

 

I don’t really think they care about the speedo in km as long as it’s working. Just have to be careful when the cop asks you how fast you were going

 

I too was helped by Onno with regard to my 330 GTC S/N 11269.

I have owned it for over 10 years and I really like the car. As long as you know that you are getting into a
50 year old car, you should have many years of enjoyment as well.

I highly recommend getting a copy of Cavallino 75. Has an excellent article about 330 GTC by the one and only Dyke Ridgley on history, development and variations on this great Ferrari.

 

That is 08935, owned at the time (1993) by Donovan Leyden, well-known and highly experienced Pebble Beach Judge.
08935 was last shown at the XXIX Palm Beach Cavallino Classic in January 2020. Originally 08935 was silver with black.

where does one get a copy?

 

I imagine Cavallino magazine might still have some back issue copies. Or if you happen to go to Monterey you check with the automotive literature convention or have a friend check it for you. Last resort, i might have a list of those that sell Cavallino back issues somewhere deep in my storage and can look it up. Good luck.

 

I'd imagine Amazon, eBay and other online sales platforms have copies of used magazines for sale or one could even place an "Wanted" ad on FChat Classifieds.

 

Look in Ferrari Market Letter as well.

 

Donovan is a great guy and expert on the 330 and other vintage Ferraris. After he found the next caretaker for his GTC he had a collection of leftover new, refurbished, and old parts for the 330 to sell. I bought the lot from him. You can learn from guys like Donovan.

 

I miss mine. Yes, I had to double clutch going into fifth. Yes, going into fifth. But what a great dame than car was...
