I'm sure there is a few ex jail birds living in Coolum , that has been trained in basic mechanics while in the can? I'd suggest contact them or she buys a can of WD40 and gives the the variuos throttle cables a spray ......or she gets them to adjust the cold start choke! When was this thing last serviced? reading the various posts.....not for a long time ..
If the engine was running like a bag of dicks hot or cold, then it could be many things, including the fuel pump. The engine is running like a bag of dicks only while it's cold, it ain't gunna be the fuel pump. But if it's never been replaced, then fair enough replace it if you like. But it ain't gunna fix the cold start problem.
The other thing I thought of was a leaking carby to manifold gasket or manifold to head...may not necessarily make a noise and they'll heat up after a while and close the gap.... .02c...again.
Can you please explain your logic for this to me Pap? I’m just trying to understand what the hell is going on. The mechanical fuel pump is the ONLY part of the fuel system that hasn’t been overhauled since Jan this year (fuel tank cleaned out, pickup and float in tank corrected; all new fuel lines at the engine end; carby cleaned and reset...) I’ve got a new fuel pump coming so if nothing else it’ll get added to my stash of spares. However I’m going to go down and check all the bolts on the carby are tight.
Can you pull out the jets easily? Some carbies have a cold start circuit instead of a choke, with its own jet. These have the smallest bore size and are the easiest to block. If you've just cleaned out the tank, a small piece of gunge might be blocking the jet.
