My bad. I had just replaced the timing belts and all seemed fine. Driving home from inspection the alternator belt broke (I must have overtightened or twisted it or screwed it up some other way) and the car overheated before I noticed. After it cooled a day, I filled up coolant but it ran very poorly and backfired when I started it. I cleaned the plugs and wires (my theory is that coolant got in the holes for the plugs and shorted the plug wires). Then the car started and idled fine but now has no power whatsoever. It will barely back out of the garage but again, the idle is fine. Looking at manual which suggested a vacuum leak, I have not been able to find one. I checked the vacuum limiting device as specified in the manual and it is not the problem. Any help would be appreciated.

Check that both banks are running.

I had a problem, that was caused by the fuel distributor, where the front bank was completely shut down. The car only ran on 4 -- and the power was way, way down.

Like sidtx says- start it from cold and feel the rear bank manifold pipes, as soon as you get heat in all 4, shut off engine and feel the front bank. If one set is cold or a lot cooler you have your answer

I dont know quite what to say........if you have the ability to do a timing belt change.....which means you have an inherent understanding of the ferrari engine.......... but cant get the most simple of simple belts back on the alternator without twisting it? How is that possible? to twist a rigid tapered loop? And then with said timing belt changing ability (that you have) how are you not capable of getting anti freeze in the reservoir without pouring it into spark plug sockets? The reservoir sits in the back corner of the engine bay. Nothing that you are saying adds up.

If you have this much lack of attention in detail then I would suspect you drove the pour thing too far and too long before even noticing that it was overheating and that you probably overheated the engine to the point of bending a valve stem. I would say you effectively just ruined your engine. This lack of attention to detail makes me feel like your Ferrari is in an abusive relationship. These cars have souls.

Furthermore, Fchat has the most dedicated, most intelligent subscribers I have ever seen. This is especially true for Mondial owners who have a reputation of babying their cars. To mistreat your Ferrari and then ask for help.......is reckless and you are wasting our time. I think you need to sell your Mondial 8 to someone that gets the Ferrari spirit and buy yourself a corvette. Sorry but I feel like calling the 1-800-Ferrari abuse hot line.

Overheating can damage the head gaskets. Start by removing all the spark plugs, and do a compression test.
