    Yes Andrew, you have escaped the ‘eye roll’
    I’ve said it a million times, Judgement & Execution.
    Can’t have one w/o the other and be successful.
    Have to make the right decisions upfront then execute flawlessly.
    A bad idea well executed is still a bad idea. :(

    When I was teaching, this used to drive me nuts. Most students don’t know when to ‘lift the brush’.

    The "problem" is your students are (unfortunately) correct; enough is never enough.
    The only car I can think of that actually got "simpler" with age was the C2 Corvette; '67 was the cleanest of the five.
    Everything else? Add a line, a crease, a hood bulge...it's new and improved...

    Can you name other cars that improved with changes/updates? Simple breads "improved" until improved is too "busy" and we revolt again back to 'simple".

    Yes, you’re preaching to the choir here.
    So called ‘mid cycle enhancements’ and ‘facelifts’ rarely were improvements. One might argue the 458>488>F8 evolution, but in my eye the 458 was the ‘purest’ example. Better? Time will be the ultimate judge.

    Most of the design work/sketches/renderings was thrown away during the '50's - '90's. Now everything is on computers. I was fortunate that I was able to save much of my work. One of the designers explains what happened to all the artwork and why.

    The 65 Riviera improved. It finally got the headlamp treatment that Mitchell wanted from the beginning. But, there is a difference from design evolution and getting additional budget to allow what had been originally desired. I can't thin of an example off hand but there are probably cases where regulatory or technical changes finally allowed an "improvement" to be implemented that previously was not possible. Change in US headlight standards would be one such technical area - round to quad rectangular, the single rectangular, the integrated composite assemblies, now the very small projectors.

    This is a perfect example of Ford's inability to figure out what they wanted to do with Lincoln. How many different face themes did they make public pronouncements as the new identity then quickly toss out before it even ran a full cycle. At the same time they were running through Lincoln Design managers and division heads quicly with each having to make their personal stamp of direction change.

    Cadillac had some confusion too but Lincoln seemed to have 12 month half life's with everything. Then i it did make it to market they did nothing to it until it no longer could be sold; no updating. Now we have Lincoln giving up on everything except SUVs.

    Yes, very sad. A clear indictment of Ford management, or lack thereof. Ford's future may even be sketchy.

    Started my career at Ford Design as a clay modeler many, many yrs ago. Breaks my heart to watch what is happening.
    Still have close friends designing there. Hoping for the best.

    Over the years the internal politics of Ford have been described as a blood sport and one's position was highly related to just how good of a relationship to a Ford family member was.

    Interesting that you mention that. Telnack was doing boat work on the side before he went to Europe, He gave his deal to another Ford designer who would later end up at Wellcraft.

    During my brief tenure at Ford Design, boat ownership was a big deal. Particularly with the sculptors and many of the designers at the top.
    I wasn't amused.;)

    For those of you who were pining for Mr. Sketchmonkey's design analysis of the AM Vallaha vs. the Ferrari SF 90.





    For the record, I don't agree with his assessment. Take the Grouper face off the AM and no where would I guess it is an AM. :rolleyes:

    Based on the crits he's done before, I look at the lines he has "sketched" on each car, and I have no interest in what he has to say.

    I believe Mr. Etch a Sketch has overstayed his 15 minutes...
