    Wow, excellent purchases!

I have debated buying Petrus, but I haven’t had the best luck finding it. I assume they have opted out of em primeur sales like Latour.

Yes, tough to find. I got very lucky. The British Ambassador to the US was moving back to the UK and he unloaded some of his bottles. My wine distributor had them for a few days prior to me picking them up.

Just sampled some of the 2017 Long Shadows offerings from Walla Walla. The Pedestal was exquisite and drinking well now. The Feather I have a few bottles
but have not tried it yet. And the Pirouette is a Bordeaux that will need a couple years to finish. I would recommend checking out this winery and their offerings.
Basically Chateau Ste Michelle created this winery to showcase the Walla Walla grapes. They brought in very experienced wine makers from the original regions around the world to create artisan wines in each different varietal. Their website has lots of interesting info.

My girl friend and I had Opus One tonight at a wine bar for $25/oz. LOL!

We bought a bottle of Caymus-Suisun at Wine Room. I really enjoyed it. I had never had it before tonight because I usually buy the regular Caymus. We also had a bottle of DAOU at Ruth’s Chris afterwards. Not a bad night. :D

Agreed!! I got the stuffed chicken last night because I had filet mignon the night before. If you haven’t had it, I recommend it. I actually make one at home that’s very similar. We also got lobster mac n cheese.

No, they are still "in", but your only problem would be "supply and demand", and should you one day apply succesfully for the "Primeurs", then being very careful to whom you would entrust your money.

Usually, even the most reputed brokers or internet dealers do not have "Petrus" in primeur available; you have to be on some kind of "waiting list" for a number of years to get it (or being very lucky). It's usually a very long shot and you would have to start early. If my memory serves me well, etc...they (= the producers of Petrus) were even speaking about "keeping an eye" on the buyers (everything is numbered nowaydays on a bottle of Petrus: label, cork, etc...) to mark people buying "primeurs" for a quick flip-over...
You also need a very reputable dealer, for two reasons: one, there have been one or two noticeable failures - business gone broke - in the past, meaning you could well be left without your money and without the wine.
Furthermore, Petrus is one of the most counterfeit among the "Grand crus"; they produce 30 to 35.000 bottles each year, but the rumor has it that twice as many are sold...

    Good luck...

A true monument. Unfortunately, among all the "Grand Crus Classés", Lafite-Rotschild is THE all-time favorite of our asian friends, especially in China. So very rare nowadays, and of course very expensive.

Excellent perspective; thank you. I’m in Chicago and was inquiring at Hart Davis Hart. Their people have told me that Petrus has kept them in the dark about the plans for distribution, but I can completely see your point about flippers. I’m likely not a good enough customer there yet.

My mistake has probably been running futures orders through Binny’s since they have a store walking distance from my house. I only bought Chateau Latour from HDH, but ran Haut Brion, Cos d’ Estournal, Margaux, and Pichon Baron though Binny’s.

As the local sports teams typically say mid-season, “there’s always next year.”

Indeed: there is always next year; or memories of better times: I chanced on this sobbering fact the other day: in 1973, a broker selling "Petrus" in "primeur" to restaurants sold the bottle (by crate of 12) for what would be (if the euro was already established) ...6.25 euros without VAT per bottle, which would be 7.60 euros all taxes included.
Even adjusted for inflation, that leaves quite a margin to the "about 3.600 euros" of today...

(Try "La Mission Haut-Brion" if you find it, either in Primeur or in a good vintage)
