Ok Gurus, Make ME Smart, ...... Please. What does this bulb on the tail/brake lights ACTUALLY Illuminate? What the heck is it Doing THERE? Image Unavailable, Please Login
Yes, that lights up the inside of your trunk. I think it would be on all the time when the main lights are on and whether the trunk is open or closed. A good candidate for an led replacement to reduce the constant current draw on the wiring system?
Doesn’t looks like it’s for a 308, must be from another model unless it’s just a place for a spare bulb.
I agree, don’t recall this on my 308 and there is carpeting behind the tail lights. Can’t be there to illuminate the trunk.
It's an OEM 308 Tail Light. I picked-up a full spare set in great shape, years ago for $200. Got REAL Lucky. I just went out and checked. If it was intended as a trunk light, it won't work for anything as there is no real 'hole' in the rear carpet to emmit ANY useful light.
According to Paul Bennett's colored wiring diagram 1981 308 GTSi, the brake lights do indeed have 3 bulbs, and this center bulb in question (pictured) is ultimately wired to the Brake and Parking Lights Relay thru Fuse 'F' on the diagram ... IF I read his schematic correctly.
Does it have a part number on it? Do the originals that are mounted in the car have those trunk illumination bulbs? Pull back the carpet and check.
Yes - You can just about make out the clear lenses in the trunk picture here: https://www.carzy.net/en/cars/jPeq44zlo3tLuBJdyLqX
I would say you're wrong - If it's a "spare", why is it wired up already? It's a 328 tail light, complete with trunk light - Just like this one: https://www.ferrariparts.co.uk/part/ferrari/60170305?id=70047 (It can also fit the earlier 308 GTB's/GTS', so if you really want luggage compartment lights, and are prepared to do a little bit of cutting on your car, you could add them [I'd suggest wiring in a cut-off switch so the lights go out when the engine cover is closed] )
Yesterday i was able to confirm this from a fellow 328 owner at the Concorso in Moterey. They actually have the trunk light on both side. Image Unavailable, Please Login Image Unavailable, Please Login
