I am very sad to hear that Niles is not with us anymore. He was always very kind to me since I started my business in 2004. He kindly forwarded to me his entire Maserati records about the cars he owned. He was one of the "magic" figures in the US who truly admired and drove their Ferrari treasures....long before they becomes treasures! So I say farewell to a true enthusiast of the cars from Maranello!

His son has replied in the other thread that the memoirs have been finished and sent to the publishers, just in case anyone else was wondering.

Ed’s stories were always interesting and informative. He thought us so much about Ferraris in the early days in the states.

My wife and I were lucky enough to travel with Ed and Phoebe on a European journey. A truly fun guy and we will never forget those good times. He also helped me acquire my first Ferrari (275GTB - 07523) from a fellow attorney and member of the LA FOC. I will truly miss him. RIP.

Loved reading his tales here on fchat, and always amazed at what he had owned, it felt like I knew him from so far away.

    Life lived to the full.

That was back in 1975 and 07523 was burgundy red at the time.

RIP, his tales of owning Ferrari's always captivated me. In my view people like Ed are by virtue of the way they shared their passion for Ferrari, part the Ferrari story itself.

Yes, with a black back section the tail lights mounted on. It was my first Ferrari and I wanted it bright red. It was Ed Niles that suggested I paint it "Jaguar signal red" which is was for most of it's life. When sanding it down we found the light blue it was today and also gold. Not sure who would have painted it gold.

so sad , Ferrari collectors and enthusiasts should live longer, because they have a passion.
One after the other some of the memory is fading away, so we should celebrate.
Should we do a big engine revving at Pebble?

The fact he was a Ferrari icon says a lot.

The fact he made it to 96 says more.

Godspeed in your new travels thru those "S" turns.

I'm sorry to hear about Ed Niles passing away. I sold my 250 GTE 2+2 s/n 4209 to Ed thirty years ago. We made the deal over the phone and he flew over to Tucson from Los Angeles and drove it back home. Later he sent me pictures of the car after he had a professional restoration done. The exterior silver paint color was re-done in a darker (sort of maroon) color and the original black leather interior was replaced with cream leather. This car was unusual in that it had electric windows and larger rear axles. The last I heard the car was now in in Japan.
Ed Niles and Kirk White were two really authentic "car guys". RIP, Ed.
