I would like to know where was taken this picture of the Ferrari 412 P #0854 of David Piper. From when it was transformed into spyder cinfiguration. Knowing that to the 1968 1000 km of Paris at Montlhéry it was still in its configuration berlinette of origin.

Is it with : 500 km East London ZA 1969 or 200 Miles Norisring 1969 ?

One interesting thing. I've seen a pic of it crash damaged during a race, circa 68 and the Coupe body was fiberglass.

I think it was taken at the 'Coppa Internationale 3Hr race' at the Killarney circuit near Capetown. 23/11/1968. #0854 retired at this event. Race is one of the Springbok series that David competes in to this day with #0900.
Remember (Italy) do a nice little 1:43 scale model of it.

I tend to agree that the photo was taken in South Africa. Utilizing some higher level Ferrari documentation verification software, I have subjected the photo to extreme enhancement and analysis to "bring out" the local insect populus from the visual background clutter. The normally undetectable grasshopper seems certainly to be a South African Bladder Grasshopper which frequents the region. This would certainly lend credence to the photo being taken in South Africa, but this is not conclusive proof. The remote possibility of a genuine Bladder Grasshopper being seen in other countries IS possible, but highly unlikely. But there is still the possibility that even though the grasshopper image on the photograph is indeed REAL, we can not eliminate the possibility that the grasshopper is a REPRODUCTION of an original South African Bladder Grasshopper which could have been planted at the race track location for the purposes of false documention. As of this time, the best we can say with 70 per cent certainty is that the photo was PROBABLY taken in South Africa.

Hey - i think Arlie has officially become a bona fide Ferrari Researcher.

Now if you could just lift up the left wing to get the grasshopper's motore numero interno . . .

Thank you at all I had a wave small idea of the place but I wanted more precision. In order to know some still a little more I continue my research and if I find other pictures, I would post them on this forum. If you also you find other pics on this race, do not hesitate with the posted here.

    Best regards.

Ah, yes - I've got that software. I tweaked the settings a bit and got a reflection in the bugs eye - sure enough, there's a water buffalo. Further tweaking may produce equally interesting results.

That photograph originally appeared on the cover of the December 6th 1968 edition of Autosport magazine in the UK, credited to Brian Smith.

Oddly enough they didn't mention the local insect life at all...........but they did draw our attention to the thermos flask fixed in the cockpit.

David Piper's wife Liz presented the winner's awards for the Cape Three Hours, mostly to Paul Hawkins who won in the Gunston P4. The race was started by the winner of a Miss Motor Racing competition which had been held a few days earlier and had been judged by the overseas contingent of drivers at the event.

0854 had it's centre section and windscreen badly crushed in a pitlane collision a month or two before, and was then converted to a full spyder. It was badly damaged by fire after colliding with Hawkins' P4 at Pietermaritzburg later in the 1968 South African series.

    Sorry to disagree.
Taken Sunday 18 August 2019 at Pebble Beach. Not Quail 2015.

There are 8 pictures. Two of which have the EXIF camera information showing they were taken on 14 August 2015. I suspect not all 8 were taken on the same day especially as the weather looks decidedly different in a couple of the shots. So, no doubt you are both correct.

The top picture is Pebble Beach at the ramp...
Then there are two pictures from the Quail 2015 (the two with more sun and the closed bonnet)
The last 6 pictures (including the top one on the ramp) are Pebble Beach again
