OEM or aftermarket? If aftermarket, which one? For a 360 three pedal manual. Sent from my iPad using FerrariChat
On my early (99) F1 car I had the dealer replace it with stock parts. But…. A bunch of stuff needed to be replaced and/or upgraded in the processes including the flywheel ring gear (3 bolt to 6 bolt, I don’t remember exactly). But when I sold the car the clutch was still rocking strong with 20K on it.
Evidently, there is a difference between F1 and 3 pedal manuals. The 3 pedal has a plastic clutch bearing guide. Mine is broken and the release bearing springs are gone. The F1 has steel guide pins that eliminate this problem. When replacing the clutch, my tech suggests installing the F1 steel pins. I would still have some life left in the clutch at 37k miles but for the broken guide. Now, should I use OEM or some aftermarket Kevlar clutch? Sent from my iPhone using FerrariChat
My next time around I'm going Kevlar knowing that the internet myth about it not working on the 360 was wrong (3-pedal, that is). One such person is jg360 who documented his application
I would definitely use the Hill Engineering release bearing. And while I don't have a brand recommendation, have a couple friends use Kevlar successfully on Ferraris. One on a F355 and he opened it up after several thousand miles and said it was obvious to him, very little wear and heat compared to stock. He was thrilled.
Update. After doing a bit of online searching, I decided to go with a PEGA Kevlar re-line from GTE Engineering in NJ. I’ve only put a few miles on it but the engagement is smooth and the effort is OEM. I’m following instructions I read elsewhere about breaking it in gently for the first few hundred miles - ordinary street driving with no hard launches or overheating. I also went with Hill Engineering parts where applicable. https://eshop.gte-engineering.com/t/ferrari-clutch-rebuild Sent from my iPhone using FerrariChat
Yes, me too. I always let it fully engage before applying significant throttle. There was a good amount of clutch lining left. But the guide broke, so… Sent from my iPad using FerrariChat
