Suprissed that the glove box leather and mirror are so messed up also. What could have caused that? Those areas should be will protected from the sun!

Although far from being a Bitcoin interesting to see that all or close all high bid on BAT for TRs have been in ‘21.
Also interesting in 17 a 7k TR sold for 120k likely 170k on that same plastic form now.
Lastly a 983 mile car only got 168.5k 4 years ago.
I would venture to say that within each segment of mile age the TR has appreciated 20% this year and last (at least on BAT)

Why not? Aside not being super reliable the 355 is amazing to me Romano!

20% would be a pretty good appreciation number if we were in a typical market.
    But we are not.
What low production classic car (or even low production modern contemporary) is not up at least 20% over the last year?????
Is the TR absolutely beautiful, iconic, and stunning ? YES

Is it outperforming the broader collector car market? NO

I never said it’s beating any market ;)
Simply empirical observation that it is appreciating recently. Don’t know if it will continue or not. It’s not a Bitcoin for sure…but given the low volume VS say modern stuff, and knowing not that many are left in great shape … I think it’s fair value.

I look at this question differently. It’s not a matter of past financial performance or performance relative to the market. The Testarossa is undervalued. That is, when compared to other collectible cars in its class, it is unreasonably cheap to buy. The market is realizing that, or soon will, and will correct.

    • Countaches and Boxers are $450k+.
    • 512TRs are now over $300k.
    • Porsche 930s are $150k+.
    • Historically, 2-seater 12-cylinder Ferraris ALWAYS become VERY valuable.

There’s just no good reason why a Testarossa should be $125k in that context, and so there will be a correction.

Any general appreciation of the market or 12-cylinder Ferraris in general will be ON TOP of that correction.

To that, add that the Testarossa’s biggest admirers are still in their 40s. When they reach their 50s, they’ll be able to afford their bedroom poster dream cars and demand will rise accordingly.

Yes, Testas are relatively plentiful, so they’ll never be worth what a Boxer is, but given its place in the culture and memories of so many people’s childhoods — which the Boxer never had — how can it be worth 1/3 of a Boxer?

That’s my humble opinion. Yes, I laid a $125k bet on it.

All of the cars that you mentioned above have substantially less production numbers.
I would also argue the TR is as nice as any of them, but the substantially higher production numbers is what holds back the TR price

That and some people really find the Testarossa not appealing too. It was a stark Change from past design

I think we’re both right. Production numbers will keep the TR from ever reaching Countach values, but the Lambo shouldn’t be priced 4x higher. I don’t think the Countach is coming down, so the the TR values will rise.

    Again, just my speculation.

@Natkingcolebasket69 , it’s only a stark change for people who were alive in the 70s. For guys my age (42) the Testarossa is the premier, definitive Ferrari, with knowledge of Boxers, Daytonas etc coming later in life.

For me too, specially being European. For us it was the ultimate car, a lot more than the miami Vice car it seems to be in the us.
Posted numerous times before but this guy sums it up better than me.

There's an older version of this story / video, can't remember but it might be Petroliciuous that shot it, it was really well done and prob 10 years older than this one. I'll see if I can find it later when I have more time.

6 TRs on auction between this week and next. Starting with the BaT one.
We shall see if it’s all BaT fetching higher prices and what other auction houses do.

@Natkingcolebasket69 That car that just sold is the same mileage and condition as mine, for which I paid $125k six weeks ago. I hope this keeps going!
