I've been looking at F1 Berlinetta 360's for several months as I research the car and the market. It seems like 99% of all cars I find for sale are at dealerships. I've seen a few for sale on F-Chat privately but all the classified sites seem to be dealers. There are more F430's for sale by private owner. Most of the dealers I talk to don't have a clue about the service history of the car and/or don't understand that any educated buyer will want to know like clutch life, belt service, stickies etc. I prefer buying from an owner who I can tell cared for the car. Why so many 360's at dealers? Either traded or bought at auction? Bring A Trailer has one now and again but usually 6 speed cars or spyders. What am I missing?

Most people sell through dealer so they don't have to deal with all the buyer questions.

Also the dealers know all that stuff they're just playing dumb.

Maybe, but I spoke to a Rolls Royce dealer with numerous exotics in their inventory and they said they didn't know anyone in town who could check the clutch life. They are a Rolls dealer in a large city. Total BS. Not to mention they are asking 100k for a F1 car with zero service history they bought at an auction. Comical. Another dealer said I could pay for a PPI if I wanted to know. Lol...I would do a PPI anyway but you should know what you are selling.

I wish it were true that these guys "are playing dumb". I can't tell you how many vendors, dealers, and others I want to spend my money with that have no clue what they are selling. All too often I find that I know more about what I'm buying than the guy selling it to me. And that's just sad.

I found the same situation with most of the dealers I contacted when looking to buy my 360 over 3 years ago. And the dealer I bought it from was less than knowledgeable and acted more like a local Hyundai dealer instead of an exotic car dealer.

Good luck with your search. And should you have to buy from a dealer try not to let dealing with a dealer ruin the experience for you.

The margin on a 360 may not be worth the effort.

    I think the main reasons they're all at dealers is that;
    a. they were traded in
    b. sellers are not comfortable having strangers come to their home to view an expensive car as it's too much of a security risk for them.

Honestly in today’s climate who wants to post up their 360 on fb market place or cl? Too much risk.

I have been a subscriber to Ferrari Market Letter for a number of years. (I recommend it highly.) There are substantially fewer 360s listed for sale now than I can recall at any time in the past. Interesting.

A lot of people will sell on consignment, which is usually worth it not to have to deal with broke joyriders, unanswerable questions, tough guy hagglers, insurance issues after a test drive goes wrong, etc., not to mention that even after fees, the dealer cars usually sell for more than you can sell for on your own. I've sold a lot of cars in my day, but after selling my GTO 9 years ago when I bought my Z06, when a couple punks took it on a joyride and I heard clutch drops and tires squealing all over the neighborhood, I don't think I'd sell any of my "fun" cars on my own again. Too many idiots. Can't imagine the winners what selling my Ferrari would bring out of the woodwork.

Seems BAT (Bring a Trailer) has set a pretty good example of what buying a used car should be in 2021. Lots of private owners seen there with nice cars--- some real nice cars.
Unfortunately, IMO as a buyer, the selling prices seem kinda high. Probably more of a positive venture for the sellers than the buyers. But they do represent some really nice examples across the board.

I suppose nothing is overpriced if you see the value and want to spend the $$. Like it has been pointed out in some posts here, traveling all over the country to Private owners or Dealers is not very feasible, it's costly, and not usually a very efficient use of time--- and overall a big hassle with more than it's fair share of disappointments. Been there.

BAT usually tries to vet most of the sellers which is good. But you still have to do your homework. A fellow I know got a lemon that was not properly represented and turned into a real headache. But at least you can post questions about the car for sale and others will chime in with (most times) valid and good info on the marque and model.

Good luck to ya... be patient and enjoy the process as much as the purchase! The right car is out there for you and you'll know it when you see it. That's how it happened for me.

I still like to sell my own cars when I decide to move on. I meet people at a public place and no one drives a car without me in the car or unless I think they are serious.

As much as I love reading BAT every day, buying there had almost become a non option as the prices go so high, plus 5% fee, plus taxes and possible shipping. A lot of dealers on there now as well. I tried to sell a couple cars there over the last several years and the reserve they wanted was laughable. I quickly sold the cars on my own at 20-30 percent higher than what they wanted for a reserve. We'll see, but this crazy time has caused hard to find a twenty year old F1 360!
