    I note from Bonhams Monterey catalogue... Lot 5 ...they refer to Ferrari having built six Automatic 365 GT2+2’s in period (1968-71). In 40 years plus of selling Ferrari of this era I’ve never heard of this. Did they ? Can someone educate me?
    I note Bonhams car is an after market auto conversion though. Thanks Paul

    Yes, six.
    Car at Bonhams has nothing to do with these and is aftermarket mod.

    I apologise for labouring the point but this intrigues me. I’m now understanding that the 6 cars were fitted with Auto boxes at the factory rather than converted on import to the US. As the auto box was never listed as an option one must presume that unsurprisingly there was little demand. Still, somebody must have had some clout with the factory to persuade them to do this.
    A final question, were any 365 GT4 2+2’s built with auto boxes ? Thanks Paul.

    Hello Paul,

    Good points, all. The only contribution I have is what I read in Ferrari The Sports and Gran Turismo Cars by Fitzgerald, Merritt & Thompson.
    It was my understanding when reading it that the 6 cars were, as you say, factory-installed/factory-supplied.
    However, this is Fchat after all- I'm quite certain that if my recollection is wrong or if the book information was incomplete/incorrect that someone here will be forthcoming with more information.

    I understand the total disdain that automatics are held in are Ferrari community but being only 6 ever produced by
    the factory does this enhance there value.

    It doesn't seem to. Various ones have been for sale off and on, usually at the same or slightly lower than a comparable normal 365GT.
