I have never seen a 308 with recessed shields. I thought the 456 was the first to offer them.
    Spotted in Monterey yesterday.

I guess it could have been a custom order, but it clearly looks post-factory. Notice how it widened the gap with the door.

California, land of custom. Wouldn’t surprise me if you couldn’t find a metal Smith in that area that could hand beat an entire 308 body out of aluminum. :)

That’s defiantly aftermarket shields weren’t offered back then. But it does look nice with them

    Good eye.

It appears to be an elaborate stick on with its own channels.

    Thanks for confirming !

Definitely NOT factory. There are a few threads here on Fchat where people have in fact built recessed shield pockets into their fenders for the shields. These look like nothing more than a sticker ;). All that work you would have thought the owner would spend the money for some OEM shields and build the fender pockets to them. Sorry for my rant, but as a metal fabricator myself, I don't understand why you would go through all that trouble to not go all the way.

Either way, looks like a Euro version. Don't see to many of those here in California.......for obvious reasons
