So sorry Eric to hear of this setback. If your diagnosis is indeed correct the picture below is what you will find. This is from my engine discovered two months after purchase during its first major. My mechanic blamed the break on a fastener that was not the proper length. In looking at my broken part there is a Helicoil in the bracket and that previous repair may have caused a stress crack to develop to break the part. In any case I dodged a bullet. I was not aware until you pointed out that Hill has a better replacement which I will be doing on my next major. Thanks for the heads up on the new part.

What do they put a sealed plate on the block and do a check as if the heads were there? There has to be a tool for that? A shop is not doing the work I am pulling engine and heads and shipping them off and reinstalling. This is a 5K problem that a shop would charge perhaps 3x for.

Nope was 2200 rpm or so chatting with wife and went to shift to second and clank clank. At stop light, crossing intersection, clank clank, rolled into gas station on the corner just across the intersection as failure happened mid intersection.

Exactly. A metal place that bold over one cylinder at a time with a seal and a hole tapped for the necessary fitting. Usually about 1/2"thick plate.

It tests the piston at the top of the stroke or mid stroke? Seems if there is damage it would be in 1 spot and the rings would need to be over that spot to leak?

    Interesting ok great.

How the heck do you accurately get +90 degree with the duck foot on the torque procedure without the Goniometer Tool #95970034?

An adapter such as this perhaps?
