A Rutgers report (The Detroit Riots of 1967: Events) said the rioting in '67 went from downtown Detroit to the East side. Harper Woods is on the East side. I get my riots mixed up, I've only been in three of them (including one in London) So Terry Myr must have had a shop there before he went to Port Huron. Now to go back to the Barchettacc.com listing of the car's history 250 GT s/n 0383GT www.barchetta.cc/english/All.Ferraris/Detail/0383GT.250... it says cryptically (I think the "8" means 1968) 8. - engine 0977GT (250 GT PF Coupe) installed 8. - engine is in USA Guessing what that means, I am thinking the original engine must have been in an engine shop in Michigan when the riot occured and it was sold when the car was being sold but not necessarily offered in that transaction. At what point (year?) as the original engine re-united with it?
AFAIK the engine was missing in early 60s already, "8." on barchetta.cc means that this was the situation as detected sometime in the 80s - which is true as it was the situation until 2007 at least. The original engine still exists and I have no idea if it has been reunited. With barchetta.cc one must remember that some of those notes are getting really old. It is a great effort but must be taken with certain critisism. That, on the other hand, is true with all source material. I have never seen a Ferrari book or website that would not contain SERIOUS errors - and likely ever will.
I don't have much to add here but....1959 the car was crashed at Lime Rock. Damage unknown. 1963 Sold to McClellow, no engine, damage from a garage fire[not verified:see www ferraribuy.com] 5/17/86 F.S F M L $50.0 K 1986 sold to Glen Kalil, resto started.Every little bit helps. More info most welcome. tongascrew
My brother recently bought a book dedicated to Lucien Wurmser, a former Bugatti mechanic. Sorry for the poor quality, but there is this photo in this book, which I assume to be 0383GT if I am referring to the registration. The caption reads "photo taken in 1953 with the Wurmser family": impossible in 1953, since the car was actually delivered to Francesco Marchesi in 1955. Image Unavailable, Please Login
Italian plate "MO 35613" was issued on the 28 April 1955 for 0383 GT of Francesco Marchesi of Bastiglia/MO. Photo caption is wrong. Marcel Massini
The tall man in the picture is Robert Aumaître, one of the Bugatti racing mechanics. He was with Jean Bugatti when he was killed in the Tank in 1939. The photo was taken in Molsheim, Alsace. Image Unavailable, Please Login
