That watch is awesome, but nowhere near as awesome as your dad. It’s awesome that you have it. Thanks to your dad for his service and enjoy in good health!

Long story on this one. I purchased it new in about 1998, was a daily watch for years. My first quality watch with an automatic movement. It's a JDM model that was never sold in the US. I kind of quit wearing it as newer watches were acquired. Broke it out a few years ago, it wouldn't stay running. About that same time, my nephew got accepted to the Rolex watch school in Pennsylvania. In year 2 of his training, he asked if I had any watches that needed serviced as he needed the experience. Um, yeah. That was January 2020. Enter covid. No more in-person schooling meant no access to tools and equipment. The nephew graduated in Dec 2020 and starting working full-time as the in-house Rolex certified watchmaker at a high-end jewelry store in Kansas City. When he finally managed to settle in enough to dig into my watch, I was told "the barrel arbor bearing surface on the barrel bridge has ovalized". Whatever that meant. Further digging led to the realization that the fix was going to cost basically what the watch is worth. Plan B was to send the watch to Omega in Switzerland and let them service it at their flat rate. I got it back today.

Per my nephew they put in a new movement because they couldn't repair the old one. They also replaced the crystal, new hands, new pushers, new crown and a brand new strap because they damaged the old one when taking it off the watch. Everything has been polished and cleaned and my 20+ year old watch is basically brand new. I can't even find the dings on the bezel that I remember being there, they either polished them out or put on a new one. Wow.

It sure feels small at 39mm, especially after wearing my Planet Ocean and Panerai regularly.

Yep, I’m a dog guy as well.
Funny story; Helen and I bought a Great Pyrenees from a breeder in France. He had great bloodlines going back to multiple generations of champions. They advertised him as being fully trained. It was a big celebration when we picked him up at O’Hare. It quickly became apparent that we had been misled about his training since he had horrible manners. It was our daughter who figured out he only spoke French! He was a great dog.

Beautiful pup. I joke that my old girl Coco speaks two languages. She came from Taiwan as a rescue and they had her chipped before coming over. But they used a chip that nobody here had readers for. So she got another. :)

Yeah, the human plays fetch. Sometimes she is so stubborn and it gets embarrassing. Last week I threw the ball and she ran halfway and then said, "Nah!" People at the park were cheering her on and telling her where the ball went. I walked to the ball and she follows until I get near to the ball. Then she picks it up and everyone starts clapping and cheering for her!

You cannot beat an El Primero movement. It is bulletproof. Very good choice of watch brand. Wearing a Panerai today here in Virginia.
