Tyre kickers and joy riders. Just about to list my Dad's 456GTA for sale. He died a couple of years ago and it's time to move his car. Any clues on dealing with the idiots when selling privately?
Sorry to hear about your dad Scott. Whenever I’ve sold on Carsales, I’ve made a point of stating no email or text enquires, phone only and no brokers. Doesn’t stop idiots emailing etc but I’ve never sent a reply. The purchaser has always phoned in any case. Good luck
YEP AND YEP!!!!! Doesn't matter how large you write'No Emails/Txt's' You'll get the dykheads responding...just nuke 'em...they were never going to be buyers if they can't adhere to a simple request! The next thing will be the person who straight up asks "what is your best price" without asking anything about the car.....hang up,the person isn't a buyer either. The person who starts to ask about some the inherent electrical issues the 456 can get....he's the person you want to talk to...IMO Good luck Scott.!
Sorry to hear about your father, interesting the other guys say no emails, that is the only way I deal with them first through the car sales email system, I hate getting the tyre kickers on the phone, I reckon you can easily vet the emails & see who is serious fairly quickly, then only respond to those serious ones & give them your mobile at that stage. Simon is right with the comments about best price straight up, if I actually think someone is serious but asks that early on, I say negotiation doesn't work like that my best price is the asking price, insist they make an offer first then we can start to negotiate from there, otherwise they wait for your 'lowest asking price & offer less. I've been successful selling on carsales.com.au, my philosophy is don't ask too high to start, go in a little higher than you are ultimately prepared to sell for, price it towards the bottom of all the others out there & you get far more interest than being too high, if the car sits too long unsold, people just don't chase it, especially if its priced high compared to others.
Sorry to hear about your Dad. This looks like a beautiful car and I wish you all the best with the sale man.
Gotta remember Pete,I'm oldskool..I'd prefer to talk to someone to see how fairdinkum and knowledgeable they are on the subject......or how receptive they are in gaining knowledge if it's their first time at that particular car. If a punter starts going off about their own experiences..well that can go both ways, either a previous owner whom wants back in again or someone whom just wants a chat!
I'm old school too mate, in fact a little more than you I believe I just would rather have a more qualified buyer before having to talk to them, I can't really be rude to people over the phone, much easier IMO in an email by just ignoring or a kinda piss off reply email... don't bother me again unless you meet my terms I have the conversation you're referring to after the emails & after I pass on my phone number, if someone is serious they will go the email route to get the phone number...it qualifies them further IMO, certainly has worked well for me with all my cars sold privately
LOL. Says the guy who would barely let a guy look at his Porsche, much less drive it. Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk
