Over a single lap he's very fast indeed, but the only data we really have is his performance against Latifi and Kubica, who has the use of only 1 arm. He certainly gets the most out of that Williams, though. Buxton should always taken with a bucket of salt when he proclaims stuff as this, as chances are he's made the same prediction about 90% of single seater racing drivers he's commented on. He suffers from Eddie Jordan syndrome, proclaim just about anything and at some point, he'll be found correct.
Exactly. Jos has zero say at Red Bull. Ricciardo has never uttered a bad word towards Max since leaving despite plenty of opportunity. The opposite in fact, he only sings his praises and appear to have a very strong friendship away from the cameras as well. To say that Jos somehow engineered a way for Ricciardo to leave Red Bull is absolutely baseless. It only hurt Red Bull and Max's chances. Max absolutely nailed Ricciardo in 2018. With Honda engines incoming, Renault (who was only 1 place behind Red Bull in the championship when Ric signed) made a strong argument for Ricciardo to move. Ricciardo made a bet on Honda either not performing (at the time a good bet) vs Renault making a good enough engine upgrade to maybe be on equal footing with Red Bull. At worst he had a reasonable chance of making a sideways move. The 30 million he'd be paid per season was even more incentive. Alas it didn't work as he hoped, Honda was far better than expected whereas Renault went backwards. And he knew the writing was on the wall in regards to beating Verstappen. Max's confidence was extremely high the moment he got into F1 and as soon as he eeked out the errors, that was that. For Ric it was better to take the money and be at a team where he could beat his teammate rather than be beaten by arguably the best talent active in F1. No matter how you look at it, beaten is beaten. At least he got paid.
Well GR killed in when he drove Hammy's car when hammy was sick. He should have won that race. I think the fact that GR is still at Williams with a failing Bottas speaks volumes for GR's talent. Hammy wants Bottas not GR because GR will be like Nico challenging for the WDC. Bottas is good but he is a number 2 like Massa and barrachello.
Hammy keeps saying he wants competition. Toto should give him Russel in the other seat. Then we can see who is boss.
Hamilton has been spewing off in the past few months he really wants Bottas as his teammate. It all depends if toto has the balls to put GR alongside Lewis. Red Bull just made his decision far easier by re-signing Perez. Russell doesn't really have an option now by getting into a better car and burning bridges with Mercedes. So Toto can afford to keep GR in the Williams for another year if he wishes to do so.
There is lots of new talent and lots of new-ish talent and lots of older talent. Some can only drive to the limit of the cars, others will drag their car across the finish line and get it more points than it deserved. This is a lame duck season...the real who's fast question will be answered if 2022...if F1 still has an audience.
Drivers want to fight drivers on other teams with the full weight of their own teams behind them. Intra-teams fights bring about factions and paranoia. "I really want the next young, hightly rated hotshoe... 12+ years my junior... as my new teammate!!!" said no racing driver ever.
Yes he is, if one looks at races, one can see that Charles should be at least 50 points ahed of Carlos..Take an almost certain win in Monaco, where Carlos should have finished outside the podium if not for Charles and bottas misfortune, again in Hungary Charles would have easily finished on the podium or won if not for the Stroller, take Imola, where the safety car made him lose positions to elton and Norris while helping Carlos.....i agree that Sainz is closer in qualifying than i thought he would be, but still, it's somehing like 8-2 in Charles favour....If you take Frnce, Charles has been much faster all year...
That will be an entertaining doubt to clear when they both drive similar competitive cars, we had a taste in 2019 and playing fair, Charles beat max in a straight fight...but i agree they are both top notch and a cut above all others, it would be an amazing batle for the championship involving those 2. Norris looks another driver this year, last year he sucked at defending position, you could see he was faster than Carlos but on sundays he couldn't beat him most of the time, this year i believe it would be diferent, he is the most improved driver imo.
I don't really go by the scores, a driver could win all the qualifying sessions in a season yet still just be a tenth or less faster on average, the gap on average is a way better reflection of true speed.
Neither do i, thats why i don't care about each other points, i just see Charles always in front, several places most of the time.
JB has claimed Russell's lap on Saturday is one of the best laps he's seen in his life, I think it's safe to say he knows what he's talking about.
Yeah pump Russell up. The media keep pumping him up. Then he will have to face that pressure and perform against a cool headed Lewis.
The media are anticipating public demand, I feel, since Hamilton's dominance is clearly resented by many. So what's better than wish a young team mate at Mercedes to challenge Hamilton, and hopefully blow him away? That's what many are dreaming about for years. George Russell fits the bill perfectly in their eyes.
Of course it's coming at some point, no question about it: everybody gets older, declines in some way and eventually retires. Look at Rossi in MotoGP; at 41, he is now at the back of the field, after years of dominance. But the question is: who will really do better than Hamilton over a whole career and break his records? It won't be Alonso, Vettel or Raikkonen, that's for sure. The man best placed to do that would be Verstappen who is at the moment way behind on the scoreboard (15 wins, against 99). Russell hasn't even started! So, although he is a good driver, I don't get too excited about him yet.
I am certaiont that Russel is relly fast and hi might as well be among the fastest. But have any member here been watching the Formula 3 this season? It for sure in an entertaining series to watch. I have no problem (nor do any other) telling who is the fastest man in Formula 3. This is a young man named Dennis Hauger and he really great to watch.. Note that name Dennis Hauger because i am sure we will see him in Formula 1.. He is a Red Bull junior so that sure helps i am sure. He is totally dominant and have great passes in the wet where you would not think it is possible. In the summer break he had 155 points or close to that while number 2 had about 80 points. This can change fast because of the strange points system Formula 3 have.. I have been watching Formula 1 since the late 1980`s but this season i have found Formula 3 much more entertaining
Spot on ^ And as per norm, it's the usual suspects that are spewing bile about Hamilton on Russell thread. and ironically it's the same ones that complain that Lewis uses social media too much they must be still upset that Maxette got a SMACK DOWN, for not backing down Meanwhile Russell is shaping up to be a good top contender.
Stats only tell part of the story though, Hamilton has almost ten times as many wins as Verstappen, would you call him ten times the driver, of course not. You're only as good as your last performce in sport, time stands still for nobody.
