Can they rebuild a standard rack to Fiorano rack specs?

I received the same answer from ZF. No go availability or a rebuild service from them. They said there wasn't enough demand for them to offer remanufactured units.

If one has a leak/issue and the rack needs to come out, I see no reason why one wouldn't try to put in the quicker rack if the opportunity presented itself.

Only hope now is to open up a Fiorano rack and have the rack and pinion reproduced to the exact same specs.

Has anyone confirmed with absolute certainty what the lock to lock turn on the Fiorano rack is ? I've heard anywhere from 2.25 to 2.75 turns.

There's one hella used one in Japan asking $5500 before shipping cost. It will surely need rebuilding. I'd actually pay $5k for a new one. Desperate times ... hmmmmmm o_O

This might be the ONLY opportunity ever the Fchat 355 community will ever get anything remotely close to a quick steering rack upgrade.

Hi, has anyone tried to contact them about a rack for the F355 - and if not maybe several mails from F-chatters could make them consider?

!0 years ago i had a bunch of BMW e21 quick racks built as they where not available in the market place they where about $400 each for the rack and pinion, they could only do manual racks not PAS racks at the time.

The UK has a cottage industry of motorsport manufacturing you can get pretty much anything made in small volume, of course it costs more.

What must absolutely reproduce, in my opinion, are the stabilizer bars of the 355 Challenge !!!

What was the process? Did you simply give them the standard rack and pinion and said, “duplicate these but give them quicker steering specs?”

If so, did you have to tell them how many turns lock to lock you wanted or they just simply made quicker specs?

I see these guys have a long list of offerings for Fiat and Alfa Romeo cars. Good chance they are familiar with TRW steering racks.

If you can, well for my taste in driving I would prefer a little quicker steering ratio for one of my cars (silver one)
Electric prius steering units. Know a few guys running them that are modded and they swear by them.
Well carry on Happy Labor Day :)

Can you confirm the lock to lock turns for the Challenge rack and how much quicker you prefer?

I have three 355 lhd racks here, they all have 3.25 turns lock to lock, one of which I removed from a factory 355 challenge, which looked to have never been changed out from new (its the top one dated 1996)

The only difference I can see is that the 1994 dated one has a full tag, where as the other later two have a corner cut off the tag to avoid a revised casing change.

I am UK based, if anyone wants to buy one and have it sent to a UK rack specialist for analysis and replication just drop me a private message.
